I know RWD cars are very difficult to drive in snow but is there anything realistically I can do to improve it? Any driving tips?

How effective is actually putting large amounts of weight in the boot?

Myth. It'll just make you sink deeper.

People in mainland Europe have BMWs and more snow than us, yet it doesn't stop them. Plenty of winter tyres threads now.

winter tyres and load it up with some weight.

Had no trouble getting around last winter in a RWD automatic.

Some hills might require a bit of a run up smile

i had a e46 328 saloon with michelin pilot sports and it was hopeless in the snow couldnt even get it off the drive, eveytime i came home from work i found my car abandoned at the start of my road and the missies moaning that she had to walk up the hill.

i now have 330d sport tourer auto, last year i needed new tyres just before we had that winter spell, my local indie tyre man convinced that if its only the misses doing the school run and shopping trips whats the point of putting high quality tyres on it so i went for the fullruns! £65 quid a corner for the rear and to my amazment the car went anywhere i asked it, fresh snow, iced over road , slushy hills, will defo put these on again for the winter

its all about the tyres

Yep, never press the throttle and you'll be fine....just set it off by slipping clutch very slowly, let car build up speed on its own, slip clutch to upchange, etc
