Tracked within the Showroom

New system monitors wandering about in car showrooms

Until now a quiet day in a dealership was measured by the empty coffee cups in the bin and the sandwich wrappers stuffed in a salesman's drawer.

These days, that's not enough and a complex system to count how many people visit your dealership and how many times cars enter and leave the premises is the order of the day.

The new ‘real time’ business information tool from PeopleCount allows businesses to monitor the number of people entering a dealership against orders taken, and analyse peaks and troughs of activity in the sales, service and parts department.

PeopleCount also offers the facility to track vehicle movements through the use of optical character recognition technology, which automatically reads a car’s number plate and relates this information to details held within the dealer’s customer database.

Information gathered through OCR technology can then be used to analyse a number of activities, such as the utilisation of demonstrator cars, including road tests and vehicle downtime.

John Nicoll, Commercial Director for PeopleCount, said: "With increased internet access, most prospective customers entering a dealership are very well researched and informed. Because of this, the quality and consistency of the brand experience in the showroom greatly influences the opportunity to secure a sale. Our technology provides tangible, real-time information that assists both motor retailers and manufacturers to understand and react to their pre-sale activity cycle in a highly competitive marketplace ."

Hardly cutting edge technology really is it.

A device the writes messages into the human memory would be of great benifit to the dealers. Especially if the device wrote "buy it, buy it, buy it"

Given my current experience, it would monitor:

"Wandered about, got fed up with being ignored, buggered off"!

I still can't believe the level of disinterest people selling £25,000 toys can display.

Understand that one, I walked into a showroom, helped my self to coffee and then sat in everycar in the place, eventually went up to the receptionist and asked her if she would help me, after 15 minutes.

love them, also anyone who wont take cash should not be trusted!.

"would cash be ok"
"no sir we do everything through our finance company"
