Fake Taliban Leader takes the UK taxpayer for 000,000's

Listening to Radio 4 this morning. Some Pakistan shop keeper convinced MI6 he was high up in the Taliban and so they set up some meeting with Iraq leaders etc. For going to these meetings we gave him hundreds of thousands of pounds.

And guess what.. he's now disappeared, and the Iraq leaders want an investigation.

I would have hoped that MI6 that wanting something to be true doesn't blind you, but obviously it did.
