Aston Martin Launches Revised Vantage Racer

GT4 Aston gets a raft of tweaks for 2011

Aston Martin has launched a new version of its Vantage GT4 racer for 2011. The new car takes design inspiration (though not the extra cylinders) from Aston Martin's V12 Vantage road car, meaning improved aerodynamics and increased downforce. The 4.7-litre V8 has also been remapped for more power and torque.

As with the current 4.7 litre Vantage GT4, (which made its race debut in 2009), the 2011 car is closely based on the V8 Vantage road car.

Now though, in addition to the engine and aero upgrades, competitors can for the first time choose a race-developed Bosch ABS and traction control system. This system has been specifically tweaked for the Vantage GT4.

The Vantage GT4's new splitter increases downforce at the front of the car, as well as channelling cooling air to the brakes and radiator.

At the rear, the car gains the kicked-up bootlid from the V12. This works together with a new carbon fibre diffuser and rear underfloor to increase downforce.

The redesigned underfloor also channels more air through a new rear-mounted high capacity transmission oil cooler.

Aston has sold more than 80 Vantage GT4s to customers around the world in the past two years and won the 2010 European GT4 Cup as well as the GT4 class at the Dubai 24 Hours, the Nürburgring 24 Hours and the Spa 24 hours. The car also has its own one-make series, the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge of Great Britain.

The new Vantage GT4 will be eligible for this series, as well as the European GT4 Cup and all other series with a GT4 class.

Awesome road car, awesome racer. Looking forward to the Prodrive factory tour in January to see them being produced up close.

why do people see a racing car and immediately say is it road legal? it seems to be the common thing here on PH. I can think of nothing worse than taking a race car and driving it on a road. if you want the road car buy the road car, if you genuinely want a race car why would you want it road legal?

sorry I'm not trying to pick on you personally, its just something i find strange about PH.

Not the same
The GT4 cars are stripped out with platics windows, roll cages, race seats, harnesses and race fuel cells.
A far cry from the road going V8 or V12
I'd be interested in how they got more power and torque out of the 4.7 mine could do with a bit more frown

I would imagine Prodrive could do something for you. I suggested to my dad (who also has a 4.7) that we make some enquiries while we're down there.

Someone told me the other day that Aston Martin is considered to be the "Coolest" UK brand name.

And I think I can see why. I'll take 2 please.

Strange? theres nothing strange about that? The race car would be a much better driving experience! And some people prefere not to have all the crap and luxuries but a pure car, aka the one in question. I can totally understand his question. You could drive to and back from trackdays in the perfect car, with out all the trailer crap. Plus it makes any journey an experience, but i guess you won't understand any of this as wanting a purer better drivers car is strange.

Each iteration of the current Vantage just gets better and better and the GT4 looks absolutely stunning.
