Right I have got back from traveling and I beasted the old girl right up until I left to save the money, she now needs money spending on her to get her back on the road.

She has been layed up for 6 months and before i left I was stopping every 50 miles to top her up with water as it was pissing out, head gasket is a common failure on the 2l model.

The questions I have are that I have a friend in surrey ( car is 30 miles away in harrow ) who can fix it and MoT it. What is the situation on getting the car there ? it has no tax MoT or insurance as it stands, now I ca;t insure it ( or it is not valid ) unless the car is MoTed and taxed, I can;t tax it without a MoT or insurance. So is the only option to tow it ?

You can drive to a place of repair/MOT without an MOT, this also exemplifies the tax requirement, but you need a letter from the MOT garage confirming an appointment for repair/MOT.

You can still insure it, as long as it's roadworthy the insurance is valid!

ETA:

Direct.gov Information

Direct.gov said:
It is generally an offence to use on a public road, a vehicle of testable age that doesn’t have a current test certificate, except when:
taking it to a test station for an MOT test booked in advance

bringing it away from a test station after it has failed the MOT test, to a place of repair

taking it to a place, by previous arrangement, where problems that caused the vehicle to fail its MOT test, can be repaired

bringing it away from a place where the problems with the vehicle have been repaired

Even in the above circumstances you may still be prosecuted for driving an unroadworthy vehicle if it doesn’t comply with various regulations affecting its construction and use. Your car insurance may also be invalid.
