Video: Hyundai Genesis Meets Brazilian Mountain

Rhys Millen shows us the best way to climb a mountain

Ordinarily we're not massive fans of competitive drifting here in the PH office - even though the dark art of the sneaky slide is as appealing to us as it is to most petrolheads.

It's just that drifting as a sport seems a little too, well, forced for our liking. Perhaps it's just that, while it's nice to see a good slide, it's at its most satisfying as the fastest way to navigate a particular piece of Tarmac.

Sometimes, though, you just have to doff your virtual cap to those who practice smoky opposite lockery on a professional basis.

This video, called Climb Attack, is one of those occasions. It features Rhys Millen taking the Hyundai Genesis coupe he used to attack Pikes Peak in 2009 up the Serra Do Rio Do Rastro in Santa Catarina, Brazil at the recent Red Bull Xtreme Drift event.

A big mountain, concrete walls, sheer rock faces, large drops, some rather impressive car control. Need we say more?

All very "Climb Dance", but nonetheless terrific for all of that!

It's impressive, but I'd rather see a full bore drive up the hill with the odd drift than a rather slow drift exhibition. Because the car is purpose biult and set up to drift, it takes away some of the skill and spectacle for me.

Red Bull sure can do a good Viral as well as a decent missle to propel towards car bonnets. . . . Good video!

Totally agree, love a bit of sideways action, but I was struggling not to yawn - It all looked a bit clinical

Good to watch of course, but the fastest way up? I don't think so.

Who and what are "RED BULL" and how can they afford all the sponsorship investment to the extreme levels
they do?

F1, WRC, Aeroplanes, Motorbikes etc etc.......

Surely it's not all from that disgusting fizzy drink?

Hyundai just need to pull their finger out and bring the Genesis coupé to Europe.

Their fwd coupés always got favourable reviews and seemed to sell well, so there must be an untapped market of enthusiasts willing to buy an affordable RWD coupé, especially since the demise of the Nissan 200SX and Toyota MR2 (or perhaps that's a clue that such a market doesn't exist and what people want/need is a BMW 123d)

Call me old fashioned, but that's probably not the fastest way up to the top. I guess it gets the kids reaching for a can of pop in the newsagents, but I'll take his overall time on in a standard Hyundai and not have the canvas hanging out of the rear tyres at the end of it.......

Fully agree with the previous comments. Cool video, but with a name like "Climb Attack", I was expecting a time attack run up the hill rather then a drift run.

Still, impressive car control!

Red Bull is carbonated water with added flavourings and caffeine. Each can must cost pennies to produce, and is sold for £1.20 a can - that's a healthy profit margin, seeing as supermarket own brands can sell a similar product for 30p and still make a living. Spending oodles on sponsorship (or advertising) must have some sort of tax benefit too, in addition to the marketing.

Oh, and Hyundai - Genesis V6 Coupe, UK, now.

True, but sweet little video.
Narrow winding roads = driving

The title of the video on You Tube and at 0:18 in the video is "Climb Attack Brazil". Rhys Millen did a film a year or so ago also called "Climb Attack" which was his run up Pikes Peak that year:

Thats why I was expecting less sideways and more speed! So, er, :P

wink

That's more like it ^

Any reason why the Genesis coupe isn't sold here?
