Did anyone see this last night in the Inverness area? 'Thundersnow' I believe it's called - a thunder and lightening storm associated with snow. Very weird, something I've never experienced before. The heavy snow clouds caused the whole sky to light up with realy bright blue-white falshes and, unless you were right below it, very little thunder noise (since the snow deadens the sound). I thought that the invasion had begun!

We heard thunder here on the west coast very early this a.m. We thought it weird as it's been so still. The North Atlantic looks like a mill pond at present!

I saw it last year on the Norfolk/Suffolk border as the weather turned nasty before Christmas. It looks amazing, I didn't realise you could get lightning in snow either.

About -10 (according to the car), blizzard and 30mph (at least) wind, I wasn't planning on standing outside for long. Strangely the layer of snow on the front of the house (right to the eves) was thicker than on the ground. Standing in the north facing bedroom looking at the windows was like driving into snow with the wipers turned off and it just built up.

Luckily they'd just finished fitting the double glazing the day before and yes, it made a big difference.

Didn't see it last night in Inverness, but heard them talking about it on MFR. Would've loved to have seen it.

Sounds fun, wish I could've seen that!
We didn't really get much snow here in Edinburgh, but I was without power from 3 this morning until around 11. Quite cold it was.

Yes mate. Was about 9pm.

Did you go in yesterday? I was at Tullos and the roads were pretty quiet! Got some impressive snow up here though, starting to drift smile

working from home for a few hours.
Went sleding this morning and got the 90 stuck ,first time in years! snow tyres would have made no differnce, was bellied. ground clearance, which proves how deep it is.

May i also say the new Costco sledges are rubbish, bad design flaw in them would avoid!

Just had a huge flash of lightening here in Aberdeen near the airport. Flash came through the blinds and was followed by a nice roar of thunder. Snow is still falling hard.

Absolutely. Flash of lightning and rumble of thunder about 5 mins ago.

Another flash a moment ago, but no rumble this time.

Passed over us (oldmeldrum) aye, must've been directly over the house (only house for a mile or so aswell) really bright flash as if a camera had gone off in the room followed by the longest roll of thunder I have heard (even when I was living in germany).

It lasted quite a while up here on Friday night(Rosemarkie). Any idea of the conditions on the A9 either side of Inverness this morning?
