m6 service intervals
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I am looking at an M6's and was thinking about the service intervals.
I know I can get a lot of information from the Idrive however some 'real world' advice wouldn't go a miss as I feel some dealerships will pay you lip service when verifying history!
I know I should look at the M5Board however I don't feel like putting myself off buying on when reading ashok's posts!
Many Thanks

Just what are you looking for?.
The service is mileage specific in other words the more short journeys you do the more frequent the services.
What things need replacement the car will advise you.
Just make sure you get the "Lowest mileage car" you can afford, and Full Service History (BMW) is an absolute MUST.
If the car is out of warrantee get BMW to extend it for a year, this will cost unless you intend buying from a main dealer.
Last but not least, they cost real money to run, be prepared.

I had a trade chum do a little fishing exercise for me recently involving getting a price on my car.Result? No bids.
Like 99% of cars, the depreciation is so bad that moving them on is simply impossible/pointless (unless you are prepared to take the enemising of all time.)
I shall be keeping mine until frail dotage and using Back Street Charlie for oil changines and pulley upgrades, etc since chucking hundreds at crocodile spivs who do nothing more (probably less than) such artisans has no benefit on what is not resellable in the first place.
Tbh with G-Power a sort of dirty fantasy somewhere in the mid distance, why not keep the old girl and revel in the most explosive engine in years?
At least that's the mindset I comfort myself with!

I second such a motion, especially the FI route but getting it past Angela Merkell (indoors) could price a problem of Finian proportion. Maybe the Norwegian answer with ESS?
My warranty has another year and a half to run and if I don`t take said enemising I will switch to independants.

Thanks for the advice, I was under the assumption you could run these on a shoe string..........;)The service is mileage specific in other words the more short journeys you do the more frequent the services.

I have run some decent M Power in the past so I think I should be ok with regards to managing the costs...
I guess the important point for me is mitigating risks as much as possible! Paying for maintenance is not an issue however countless/ issues are what I want to avoid.
I guess the lowest mileage is an idea however I would still need to ensure it doesnt need an imminent INS 1 or 2!!!
The Bmw warranty is obviously a must- only ever ran my e30 m3 and a z3m without one!
Apart from brake discs, mpg and volume of oil used for oil changes what items would be more costly than my e90 m3- bearing in mind major items should be covered under warranty!
it's either one of these or an AMV8...........

To the OP the service intervals are pretty good. I had mine for 1.5 years with a minor service costing £200 so far and the major service still just over 2k miles away (which for me is a fair few months yet)
the MOT has been up 6 months ago too, cost a whopping £46

Do we yet have a conclusion as to the best rubber for these things?
still running the fronts on michelins that the car came with, but replaced the rears with contis and the back seems to be livelier than before with TC kicking in all the bloody time, so would go back to michelins for the next re-shoingI do not like the conti's at all.. The back end slips about all over the place. Just got winter Pirelli Sotto Zero's on (before the snow for a change!) and there is more grip with these than ever there was with the contis. Come March I'll be putting on a set of the Pirelli Corsa's as found on the competition M6, see how that goes... When those are worn down to the nubbins, I'll be back to old faithful PS2's.
