I'm heading down to KL on Thursday from Thailand before moving on to Singapore. I'm looking to pick up a laptop on the way and was wondering where I'm likely to find the cheaper prices. Don't want to miss an opportunity in KL thinking it'll be cheaper in Singapore only to get there and find that prices are higher.

Does anyone have much experience shopping wise in either city? Are prices likely to be much lower than back home?

Computor shops in Low Yat Plaza is the place in KL, stock is so huge I wouldn't like to say a price, as it is dependent on spec, but when I look I estimate prices as bing UK without Vat, so if you can buy in the UK without Vat, which I can it's the same.
I bought my last 4 computors in Low Yat no problem with gaurantee, had a soft ware problem with the wife's lap top fixed over the weekend, but then it is 2 km from my house I'f I was going to use in the UK I'd buy in the UK, don't know about Sing because as a rule it is more expensive than Kl so I never look in detailand

I have never bought IT equipment from KL, so cannot compare the costs - but have from Singapore loads of times. In fact the Mac I am typing on now came from there about 5 years ago. The manufacturers warranty are the same from abroad as they are from UK.

I always head here, and then shop around when you get there. There is a little room for negotiation on the price, so see what you want and then go to a few places to price it up. There is never a lot between the prices, but get at least a couple of prices to ensure you know it is a fair price.

I was in Singapore earlier this year, with current exchange rates prices were no better than in the UK, not cheap enough to make it worth while. I would look at getting something in Duty Free at the airport, you'll then have some comeback if you have issues.

Also don't forget you may not get a UK spec PC with a UK keyboard!
