my lil one pushes the wheel and its in two pieces

this was it pre-destruction...





the base is a kitchen worktop which is where the break happened - between the feet and the base - evidently the supports were not strong enough on the sides and the screws werent big enough but i had doubts about them already

To be fair to the little one, it does look like the slightest whiff of sideways force and the whole thing would keel over

the white blocks had screws which were too small but i thought it'd last me longer than 24 hrs

i probably will end up buying a pro kit - but i wanted to know if i was actually any good with the wheel before i dish out a few hundred quid for one.

with it being a sunday i cant even pop down to b&q either

time to do my a-team and improvise...

First thing i noticed was that you're using a chair with wheels on... I could just imagine you slamming on the brake and sliding accross your room, wheel in hand

If you want to make it 5 year old proof you'll need to cross brace it with titanium struts....

thank you for the 10/10 and i shall take the 3/10 too with my DIY skills!

the chair doesnt move too much plus its got a box against a wall behind it. i do need to add feet to stop the stand sliding foward. the wheel is clamped in so thats fixed on fast - the pedals are bracketed in. it would've been fine on carpet but on vinyl its sticking

the finishing touch is going to be sticky carbon fibre vinyl to give it a more racing look

I think it's a great job!

It looks like your construction is all screwed together, but if you want to make it really quite solid, if you take apart the joints, sand them back to bare wood (in aprticular the plank that joins the legs together, and the floor joint pieces), apply some PVA wood adhesive, re-bolt/screw it all together, leave it overnight you'll end up with something pretty solid. Probably more solid than quite a few commercially available wooden furniture items.

(Our John Lewis nest of tables, that is used for my 360 wheel, was not 3_ Y.O. wife proof, but then I'd need to add reinforced concrete, titanium struts and carbon fibre to achieve that)

I'm thinking of getting some vinyl and wrapping it up in the carbon fibre look

That will never stand any downwards force unless you add a vertical support.

The way it's designed, a vertical support us not needed as the player's legs will support the frame whilst playing....you might need a temporary support whilst not playing....prob just a plank of wood.

yeah the board rests on ur thighs so thats not a prob

and when its not in use u just put it verticle it doesnt stay at an angle

OK, fair enough.

I still think you may as well as add some fold out legs that clip onto the baseboard. Once you make a triangular structure, it becomes much stronger.

yeah i am thinking of having something that can just sturdy it more but needs to be different sizes to accomodate different players
