Does anyone have any suggestions for good restaurants in Cardiff (or very close by)? Nothing too expensive please, but something of good quality smile

Thanks

Champers is a good solid option. St Mary St, opposite the Philharmonic, just past the end of Caroline St (which is what most of the plebs call 'Chip Alley')

IIRC someone told me that Champers had shut down, and that LE Monde or The Brasserie had knocked through into the space. La Fosse below St David's Hall is a good alternative though.

indeed

there's always Ramones! biggrin

Haven't lived in cardiff for 7 or 8 yeras so i'm not going to make any specific recommendations. However the loss of Chipply lane is a sad sad sight to behold!

It's still there and going strong. They've demolished part of the northern side to make way for the Brewery Quarter, but the important thing is that Dorothy's is still there lick

Champers went about 2 years ago and is a bar now. The Braz next door is still going as is Le Monde.

The Braz is not as good as it was but I had a great meal in Le Monde a few weeks ago.

Another good choice is Le Gallois in Canton.

Bit sad to hear of Champers going, was always excellent food there!

Heard good things about this: http://www.mintandmustard.com/

Intend to try it next time I'm down there.

Happy Gathering is stil there and stil very good (always packed with local Chinese community). Riverside is also still there but not been for donkeys years.

Mint and Mustard has very good reports and is on my list.

Mint & Mustard is very nice lick It is a bit nouvelle cuisine though, small portions and all that, but very good.

The Dizzy Llama on Churchill Way is just the best! Not quite the fat duck but in my opinion it's better. Great food, wonderful service, excellent value for money. Altho I think you'll be extremely lucky if you can get a table there during December.

And it says on the website "Our business aims to operate in the most sensible and ethical way possible"... not very ethical for him to promote his business by giving the impression he's a happy customer, and giving no indication of his interest in said business... bad move there!

Sounds like it needs all the publicity it can get because I've never heard of it.

Wierd that another online 'review' mentions the fat duck as well - "Often overheard comments form the best kind of reviews. And so, when I heard someone say 'Forget the Fat Duck, go to Dizzy Llama'"

For balance to this spam, check out this 2/5 review http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g1864...

'three out of four of us were seriously unimpressed with the food'

'In conclusion I wouldn't go to Dizzy Llama again'
