The fans on my 4 litre are coming on at a gnats over 70 degrees according to the temp guage.
Surely this is not right!
Otter switch?

may be that an aftermarket otter switch has been fitted. I fitted a leven cooling kit which comes with a switch coming on at 72 degrees IIRC

Mine were cutting in consistently at 75, turned out to be a naff temperature sender.

They were in fact cutting in at the usual 90, just the gauge not reading correctly.

I'm having the same problem, how did you work out it was the sensor and not the gauge or wiring?

Just fitted a leven cooling kit to my Chimaera, the Stat is rated at 74 degrees and the otter switch at 87/92. Fans cut in at 90 ish on gauge and dropout at 85ish on gauge. I also thought that the leven kit came with a lower temp otter switch so sent off for another one and it was exactly the same??
