I have a Cayenne Turbo!
Discussion
so I finally got it, thanks to you all for your help and advice.
What a car! Yes, it looks like a monkfish but I dont care when I'm in it! I do think the turbo looks a bit better than the na version but its no beauty.
Its the drive that impresses me most though. Lots of power, its no RS6 but should punt along a bit quicker after DMS have a fiddle, but its so smooth, drives like a car but with much better visibilty and is so comfortable.
loving the heated steering wheel and the other toys too.
Turns out it doesnt need tyres yet so I'll hold off on those.
3 minor things in case anyone has any ideas..
parking brake doesnt always disengage, well, you can feel it disengages but the dashlight and boinger still thinks its on sometimes.
also slight noise/whirr at constant revs at about 40mph, almost like a whine or something, not loud, just noticable.
slight power steering whine when turning wheel even when moving, not when on full lock even.
other than that, all good.

Hello,
Glad you are enjoying it as you will benifit the most over the coming weeks with the snow they have forecast!!
As for the hanbrake not releasing properly their is a return shock absorber on the foot pedal that is weak and thats why it does not bring the pedal back all the way. The part is roughly £25-00 and 15mins to install.
With regards the other noises you may want someone to check the power steering level and get an independent opinion from eithe OPC or Indy to see what they think.
Enjoy the car I had a Cayenne Turbo for awhile, but also still have my trust V8 S, had it for over 2 years now !! Still going well. In December Last year it was the only car I could get around in.
Mike

"It's no RS6"
Not to wander off topic but I once went to p/ex my RS6 (remmaped to 500bhp) for a Cayenne Turbo.
The dealer was giving me the whole sales pitch and started to tell me how the Cayenne would 'destroy' my Audi, to which I chuckled and told him it wouldn't. The fat (by fat, I mean morbidly obese) garage ownner then pulled out a wedge of notes and said "I guarantee you it will, I challenge to a race, I bet you £500."
Upon (stupidly) explaining what my "A6" was, he put his money away immediately and withdrew is offer. The deal on the Cayenne never surfaced either as his attitude and arrogance put me off.
Story over.

Hmmm. Used one of these at the weekend, first time I have ever spent any time in one. Quite impressive I must say. What a car! Yes, it looks like a monkfish but I dont care when I'm in it! I do think the turbo looks a bit better than the na version but its no beauty.

Oodles of power and pretty good on fuel on the 120 odd mile round trip I did yesterday. And no, I never drive like Miss Daisy!
Ergonomically, I did not find the car particularly easy, but I have little experience of later Porsches so I guess that could just be a what you're used to/not enough practice type thing. The heated steering wheel for example, does that just come on with the heated seats? It was on, but I couldn't find a switch for it! (I know - RTFOM)
Didn't know you were looking Craig! I have just bought the 08 plated, 17,000 mile, pan roof car discussed above. We could have had a deal!

Quality.
I still find it difficult to imagine what schnellic bang/$ ye have, there, Squire.
Then again, I probably do.
Craig rang me the other nacht to describe how, having quarrelled with a 997 in his own X50, Das Münkenfish then barelled past past the Forex Johnny and himself with Lady W at the helm.
An automotive moment reprising the glory days from the series shocker Capital City.

You did the right thing, he sounds like a total tosser. An RS6 is much quicker than a KNT, this will be much quicker post DMS but still not as fast I'm sure. it doesnt bother me because thats not why I got it.Not to wander off topic but I once went to p/ex my RS6 (remmaped to 500bhp) for a Cayenne Turbo.

Oil company I wish lads!

steering wheel heat turns off with seat heaters.
This being a positive post about the Cayenne , I will not mention the string of mechanical "Warranty " reapirs I had with my Cayenne Turbo
Apart from that, they are superb machines.
Weltmeister at Silverstone did a stage 3 Revo on it with Motor sport exhausts. Alan said it would be close on 600 bhp with ,I think 1.2 bar boost as it had no digital gauge.I spent over £7000 getting there though.
I always ran it as low as I could on the air suspension. I have driven a few powerful cars in my time and I have to say it was awesome. Even the road holding, for a 2800 kg machine, was superb. I could get 8 mpg all the way to 26 mpg. Not bad for such a big monster.
The traction control was unbeatable, better than the range rover IMHO, as it the Tip Tronic box. I had no problems what so ever with the concept just some serious mechanical defects and I hated the stupid foot operated parking brake. It was a 2003 model, I think they sorted most of the problems by the next gen Turbo.
Out of 10:
For sheer brutality and driving pleasure 10/10
For reliability: 5/10
Economy: 7/10
I did get some stick from a lot of people, more than I would say is fair. when you consider the state of the world with wars and killings, why are people so $hitty to others just because they drive a " Gas Guzzler". Which all things considered it was not. I have been stopped in a car park once in South England and confronted about driving a "Chelsea Tractor" and wasn't I ashamed to be destroying the planet"
I haven't, surprising enough and I mean it, had any problems with my 996tt ?? What a strange world we live.
Frank
I now have a 996tt.

Ps I maent i have had no "people problems" owning my 996tt. I have had mechanical issues though.

Craig it may surprise you to learn that original RS6's and KNT's have very similar ring times.
Seem to recall when the boy Metcalfe had both during a certain Evo mag epoch they hooned 'em somewhere together and yes, there was broad equality of progress.Craig, I'm sure after Roberto & Co. have woven their spell it will have you babbling.
Welcome to the club !
2 years of ownership, over 35K miles, and it still puts a smile on my face...
next year its put into towing duty, with a trailer and the GT3 on the back
Can recommend yoko advan tyres for summer, & Pirelli scorpion ice & snow for err now !
mine has the foot brake issue too - only ever used it once...
they are sensitive to wheel imbalance, so that may be your vibration, or the cardan shaft centre bearing
Keep an eye on the coolant level too - physically check it's at max; they are known to fracture the plastic pipes over the engine (and there is a TSB that replaces them with ali ones)
enjoy it....I do !
