Where to go in Reading ?

I'm out for a lads night out in Reading on friday and am looking to the SAS for ideas for where to go.
I understand Sakura is good, and having looked at their website looks to be ideal and having a club attached too is good.

Anywhere else i should be thinking of?

Depends what level of liver abuse you're aiming for, if the group enjoys cocktails then MIX is always a good bet. Not had a bad night yet at Sakura, if you're definite on going (and drinking) then give them a call about a table in the VIP bit.

When I lived there it was always Pavlov's->Turtle->Fez.

That new micro-brewery pub is quite nice. 3Bs still there?

Fez no longer exists (it's now basically Sakura) and Pavlovs is now full of people that look underage to me

Zero degrees (the micro brewery) is nice enough and the food is okay too.

Guess it depends on age of those going and level of drunkenness planned...

Cheers, there is only 3 of us going so not sure about booking a table but will think about that and i forgot about Mix, might be an idea too

Pav's or one of the weather spoons are the best places to go if you're in there before 11. Turtle is always a winner, Sakura is good ona Monday but haven't been on a Friday in while so no help there. I normally end up at the After Dark as it's open 'til 2.30 and plays loads of 80's tunes, it is however a massive sweatbox.

Also have a look at Mango's - Night club not far from Pavlov's Dog, not a bad place for drinks and a boogie. Also if you are in your late 20's-30's it would be worth checking out Sub89 as it has some good music nights on.

I am indeed and sorry, I had no idea about the canned beer I only drink spirits.

On arrival at Sakura in the VIP bit, buy a bottle of Gin, then realise when sat at the table that one of the three of you needs to leave in ~45mins and drink whole bottle of gin between 3 of you in less than 45mins after already having had a skinful.

I wish you luck, it didn't work out that well for me however was a bloody good laugh

I was 33 when I left Reading. Was always at the After Dark, particularly Fools Gold nights - it's a great place

If you are after decent beer then try the Nag's Head - Russell St. about 500 yards up the Oxford Road from the Broad St. Mall. Busy local pub with 12 beers all in good condition.

For food there is

Zero Degrees - Italian-like food with micro brewery (usually about 5 beers brewed on the premises) - but served cold. Pizzas are good, mussels, even sausage + mash.

3Bs is only open on some nights.

Blagrave (over the road from 3Bs) - under new management, no recorded music and a good fire.

3 Guineas (at the station) busy with a good choice of beers good start/end point.

Hobgoblin - Broad St. - can get very busy, good beer.

Retreat - St John's Rd (out of town on the A4) hidden in a residential terrace, quite small.

Abbot Cook - (out of town up Kings Rd, past the college) newly refurbished (was the Upin Arms) and now quite up-market - food and beer is good.

Sweeney Todd - Castle Hill - Decent beer and pies.

For food alone there is

The noodle house (West St.) newly reopened after a fire for quick, unfussy and cost effective Chinese food.

Munchees (Butter market) - Nepalese all you can eat buffet £5.99 - upstairs above the cafe. Basic.
