On friday, the service lights on my e39 530i jumped from 3 too 1. Is this normal? I'm assuming its because of the fairly swift onset of cold weather.

Wouldn't have thought that was weather related: the indicators go out according to how the car is used, so unless you've been clogging it to get out of a snow drift for some time, I'd guess you've lost the indicator light for that cell.
