Metallic spraying
Discussion
Hi,
Further to my 'wing mirror getting kicked off' post I managed to get hold of a new one from a scrap yard. I got some paint from the tvrbody shop and purchased an air brush. Following exstenisve preparation - undercoating etc, I sprayed on the new paint (severval coats). It looks good, however it has not got the deep shine I was hoping for. In fact its abit rough. I'm going to get some rubbing compound but I was wondering whether some sort of laquer was required? I've never done any respraying before so any advice would be welcome
Many Thanks
Charlie

Have you got the paint thinned enough?
It sounds as though you are using a little too much air during spraying, if you use a thinner mix it will allow you to get the coverage using less air.
You need to experiment with the amount of paint thinners to get the mix right.
Also see if you can warm the mix a little, rest your spray jar in a little warm water prior to spraying.
Hope this helps.

They all do that - spraying metallic using an airbrush. Continue as you've indicated, use rubbing compound, then several (4/6) coats of clear compatible laquer- it is the laquer that gives the "depth" of colour/protection, allowing the metallic to shine thro'. After a day or so, use the rubbing coumpond to produce that real-smooth-finish before waxing.
