Hi Guys,

My little lass has been playing a (pretty rubbish) MMORPG... at least that's what it calls itself, I've not seen another player....

Anyway, I'm actually sort of enjoying helping her and so thought I might dip my toe in something a bit more complex/challenging (and I might be able to dip in and out during quiet minutes at work *cough*).

Any recommendations for something involving, not too steep a learning/dying curve for noobies - a bit of balance between difficulty and progression, really.

Must be free! And, if possible, no power-ups/shortcuts etc available to those who pay real money (as I won't and I think it skews the game refered to above too much).

I don't mind the genre - swords to blasters, it's all gaming to me smile

Thanks in advance for the help!

Lord of the Rings Online is now F2P

http://www.lotro.com/

Unfortunately you're unlikely to find an MMO thats totally free - the microtransaction model is how F2P games fund themselves, but you shouldn't find it a huge issue.

It's pay monthly or micro-transactions.

You can play some games free but people who choose to pay will have higher level caps or some other advantages. Sometimes it's just cosmetic but often it gives a game advantage (normally speedier levelling or bigger bags or stuff like that).

Lotro as linked above is a good starting point. I used to pay monthly but have moved on now. I think they have both micro-payments and monthly models and the free play shouldn't bee too crippled as it was a full commercial game and is now very mature.

How about KalOnline, very addictive and a huge game. I used to be hooked on it, all knights, mages and archers etc. Worth a look.

Get World Of Warcraft, it really is the only MMO worth playing at the moment.
