Maybe this should be in the BBQ thread but anyway,
We are going away with some of the family for new year. Usually I like to do a good stew or roast to takeaway with us but after falling in love with my Weber over the summer I thought it would be good to take one or two smoked/roast hams to have cold.
You know the sort of thing, hangover ham sandwich with lots of mustard. lick

I would like to get a good piece of ham/gammon from my local butcher rather that just pick up a ham joint from the supermarket which is full of water and crap etc.
What should I ask for and any tips on smoking/roasting it?
I was thinking about marinading in apple juice with a bit of chilli, mustard and some herbs.
Any advice appreciated.smile

Shoulder is a good smoking / slow-cooking joint.

Check out 'Papoo's' contributions here for how to proceed.

2 days and still no jokes about smoking a joint - very disappointing
