"Unreliable"

Having just driven down to London and back from North Yorkshire in my "Unreliable" TVR, I thought it worthy of note that I passed two Porsche 911s and 2 recent BMWs, all on the back of low loaders!

Not at all scientific I know but.....

Whenever out in the Tiv, I feel tempted to drive up to broken down cars to ask "Do you need any help...?".

Best not to tempt fate though eh?

New to be delivered?

Taken away to be serviced?

Courtesy car?, had 2 from BMW like this, whilst awaiting my wifes new car.

(Even my griff went off on a low loader a couple of times for routine servicing - called customer service)

Certainly not new, as for the rest...don't spoil it!

(Both my TVRs have had a couple of "Piggybacks" in their time!)

Bloke in my office has had his new M3 six months, during which time it's been back to the dealer for faults 10 times. Including at least once on a low loader...

Nice try Big Al but you still haven't deterred me from buying a Porsche...one day And as for the beemers, I've had two of them to date without any mechanical problems whatsoever!

Trev, on the other hand, has been on the back of a low loader!

Neither is this a scientific comparison of my current cars but -

one 2001 BMW M5 E39 vs one 1998 4.5 Cerbera
both now at 58000 miles
Cerbera around 100 trackdays BMW 5 trackdays
low loader journey BMW M5 never but Cerbera once for a dropped valve, it happened at indicated 188 mph, once for an AA man diagnosed "alternator failure" - it was the 100amp fuse so that shouldn't count.

Considering the 20,000 plus track day miles since 1998 I think the Cerbera has done rather well.

Having spent the day dropping the engine out of my 911 due to the clutch fork snapping, I can't agree more. The "unreliable" 350i steps up to be my everyday transport until the bits arrive and I have the time to reasemble.

Excellent!!

Although I have yet to compare the TVR and the Lotus for reliability: the year is fast passing us by and workshop time eludes me week after week...
