As above why are small new 4x4's so bloody expensive, rav4, xtrail etc etc.

The snow has got the lady considering one now for her next car (and to be honest living in the sticks one would be handy anyway) and they seem to all be 24k or more, why can you not get one for 17-18 k??

And not a bloody terios or suzuki jimny.

I don't consider the current rav4 or xtrail to be small.

I consider a Panda 4x4to be small. It's got a £11,455 OTR Price.

So it's not that she wants a 4x4 but more that she wants a very large handbag to show off to her friends.

I think you'll have precious little luck with this until you approach it from a less practical angle. wink

It is one of the universe's unanswered questions.

Anyone thinking of paying £20K plus for a Rav4 or similar must need their head checking. That sort of money would get a nice ML - but no doubt picky girlfriend will say that they are too big!

Oh and from experience, if you want it to be any good in the snow, factor in an extra £grand for a second set of wheels and winter tyres.

not really, she is country born and bred and not really a poseur but a bit picky as cars are concerned.

I recon a top of the rnage juke with a hefty nissan friends/family discount would be great however she doesnt like them!

Two months ago my wife decided she wanted a 4x4 after driving various Fiestas for many years. She decided upon a two door Suzuki Grand Vitara and is very pleased with it.
I believe the Qashqai is two wheel drive.

Because people who are stupid enough to want one as some kind of sheep mentality fashion statement are the same people who are stupid enough to pay the asking price?

Decent spec Yeti is out of her price range, the waiting list is massive anyway.

There are plenty of sub £20k options really - Vitara, Jeep Patriot, Kia Sportage or Mini Countryman though let's face it, a £21k base spec Freelander is the one for horsey set brand approval.

So you want a cheap small 4x4, yet moan at the cheap small ones.... :rolleye:

Ever think that there might be a reason why???? idea

small does not have to = cheap

At the end of the day, if you can't afford new, how about looking at used......... it's what everyone else has to do rolleyes

Does it have to be new?

£20k will put you in a very nice Discovery 2.

£20k will also put you in a nearly new Defender 90 cloud9

The HSE Freelander 2's must be around the 20k mark used as well?

The RR sports (albeit 2.7's) are also tempting.

The Defender 90' is small.....well, compared to the 110 it is.
