We are on a bit of a hill, and I've been able to get up the hill and get the car home and onto the drive since the snow came on Saturday, as long as I can keep moving at a steady pace. But today I had my first fail, I had to stop for parked cars and traffic coming down the hill, and from then on it was a struggle to get going again, tickover and/or minimal revs, third gear, clawing my way up car length by car length, had to give up just a few car lengths short of my drive and give the clutch a rest. Went back out later and cleared a way with a shovel, and with some help pushing from the neighbours, managed to get the car onto the drive and off the road. Apart from the problem of living on a hill, I've been OK getting about.

How about you lot? How's it going? Any prangs or abandoned vehicles?

Not having any particular difficulty driving in the snow, but it's the same crap joke as previous years: clueless muppets everywhere, not a hint of a gritter to be seen despite being on the doorstep of the gritting depot, chaos on the hill in/out the village (tractors towing lorries up the hill). Took over two hours to get home tonight. Sod that for a game of soldiers - we're working from home until they can be bothered gritting the roads grumpy

Not too bad out here on the Fens - no hills to mess things up with.

Seen 4 cars in ditches/dykes though. 2 were 4wds! Judging by the marks along the verges the pilots were going FAR too fast for the conditions...

Had a few white van drivers following me 6 inches off my rear bumper on main roads, despite me driving at 40 mph. Morons.

Someone in Lincs county council has had their leg lifted - the gritters have been out but the snow just won't melt. Special salt perhaps? The inert type...

Stu, how do you get up your steep drive? Cleared/gritted?

Just helped the neighbour (BMW Z4) with some digging out and a push. It's taken him nearly three hours from Darley Dale, then he fails at the final hurdle getting onto his drive biggrin

I live at the top of a hill just outside Nottingham City Centre (Bakersfield) and now I understand all 3 modes of the BMW's DSC/Traction Control, that I didn't in the snow earler in the year (I know, I know) I've been ok. I'm not saying it's been a piece of piss but for a RWD Beemer it's done well. Work is only 11 miles to East Leake across the border so not too bad.

No real problems here. We've gritted our drive so I can get the MX-5 off easily enough and it's only 2 streets before I'm on the main roads which are clear. Today was my last day at work for this week as well so hopefully it'll all be clear by the time I need the car again.

I went to work Friday night on overtime in the Pug 205 oil burner and didn't expect 4 inches of snow in Kirkby the next morning. The A38 and M1 were white over at 5am with no sign of a gritter or snow plough. The Pug performed amazing well - just glad I wasn't on the Northbound side behind all those stuck lorries at junction 28. Today I decided to take the old series 1 Land Rover as they'd had more snow up there. I'm so glad I did as it was over 8 inch deep in places - so glad I fitted the new front prop shaft 3 weeks ago too.
It's not been too bad in Long Eaton so far but it's surprising how much more snow there is 3 junctions up the motorway.

Prang frown I swapped cars with a friend in a massive carpark to let him have a go at drifting, he hit a kerb and bent my nearside front wishbone which pushed the wheel into my wing on the Mx5!
Thankfully he's paying for it to be repaired tomorrow.

It took me 40 minutes just to get 30 metres into my drive yesterday!

Big hill though!

Now it's just unreal, people are having difficulties just walking!

I don't think i'm going to risk going to clay cross somehow!

Ooo, pleased I decided not to try and go home then! Getting out to J29 was interesting enough yesterday morning.

It's mental up here. Depth wise, somewhere between knee and waist.

I've yet to see a NE Derbyshire gritter or snowplough.
Wow, definitely good I didn't try to get home then, although as a Range Rover driver part of me wants to get back and play!

Yep, using the ro. Its not been too bad anything above 1100 rpm it spins 1-4. Ive not got stuck yet so ive not tried the socks out.

Im looking into winter tyres for next year, i will pick up a set in the summer.

Had to clear the drive and was a bit sideways going up the main road and through some of the smaller roads to work. Still snowing so it could be interesting getting out of the works carpark

Got home ok last night, but needed a push once in the street,
spent an hour clearing the snow around the car til about 10pm,
now have 6 inches in that area, but about 10-12 inches in the rest of the road and two neighbours cars blocking the street anyway. Enforced day off, then. have rung into work.
