Saw on TV last night that a woman who ran into a Trafpol on the A1M last year was given a 12 month ban and a £500 fine.

To be honest, i couldnt believe it....what is the world coming too?

Edited to say that no matter how severe the Fine, sadly..it wouldnt bring Andy back !

Treating the legal system in this country with incredulity is a national pastime isnt it?

But then a woman on the Bailiffs TV show last night could go to jail for 3 months for not paying her council tax!

I had been following this case and really expected to see a short prison term.

Sometimes the law does seem to be an ass

Its making it very clear to the scrotey murdery population that if you want to murder someone - DO IT IN A CAR!

Instead of 20+ years you will only get a fine

I'd be interested to know the last time someone was sentenced to 20+ years, let alone served it...

Absolutely diabolical!

That's what this once great country has now become.

Judges are told what to do by the home office and the wholesystem is in shambles.

Thought you got 10 years at least for this?

12 month ban? And a just-over hard-working pillar of society gets 6-12month under totting up? Something not right!

And scrotes get away with it! ( Remember the classic of last month: "Just sit at the back of court, young man - and if you sit still with your arms folded - we will let you of completely")

Something definitely wrong with calibre of mags and judges we get these days!

But then - what can you expect from politically correct bs.

Very sorry to hear about your colleague! And agree - that woman should have served time and been banned for lot longer - and been made to redo the test!

Law's a real ass!

As I understand it the dilemma is whether you punish the offence (careless driving?) or the consequences of the offence (death by dangerous driving)

Not sure, myself, how we strike the right balance.

The law is an ass, typical sort of incorrect sentence.

Tony.

It wasn't speed that killed him, it was someone who failed to pay attention!

If they had been failing to pay attention in their lounge when being talked to by their family/partner or whatever, he would still be here!

It was a tragic sequence of events....mainly not paying attention coupled to some extremely bad luck.

The guy who fell asleep in his Disco and went off the motorway onto a railway line was imprisoned. I've since heard that driving off the road onto railway lines happens "a couple of times a month". So yes, it seems that "luck" (however you define it) does have a large part to play in whether a mistake turns into a tragic accident.

Nonetheless, wasn't the max sentence for this just increased to 15 years? How come this was dealt with by a fine?

Andrew Evans was 17 when he was convicted in April 1973 of murdering Judith Roberts, a schoolmaster's daughter who was beaten to death near her home in Tamworth, Staffs. He served 25 years before being freed by the Appeal Court in 1997 - Streaky

As I have always said the Justice system favours Money over life. How else do you explain the lentilist getting 16 months gaol for tyre slashing and this woman getting away with a fine and driving ban for killing a person. Living, breathing and quality of life should always be the priority. Its historic. Have a look at the way these crimes have been dealt with in the past.
