MX-5 and snow?

Are we all brave enough to still use them? After losing the back of a Jensen Interceptor on a wet road on October, my confidence in my car control has taken a battering, and i've yet to venture onto a snowy road in my '5. I've Mountain biked the 3 mile to work. Am I a wuss?

Its pretty good predictable fun in the '5 but the grip is minimal so mines in the garage for now as i actually need to get to places rather than go sideways

I'd much rather drive an MX5 in snow than cycle! Just go slow and take it easy. If some other driver loses control and wipes you out you are much more likely to survive in an MX5 than on a bike!!!

Yep, mine got washed on Friday and put away as it is running on Toyos which are less than useless in this weather.

I'll tell you the answer when/if I get home this evening... the office is almost empty as people have gone home early because of the snow. I just looked out of the window and i can't even see my car in the car park

Oh, and 2 of my tyres are 'Kenda Radials' and the other 2 i havent a clue. I had some predictable fun yesterday and day before, but today might be a bit much!! Shovel is at the ready...

Having learnt how long it takes to grow skin back after you fall off a bike in icy conditions...twice in 5 minutes... I'd sooner walk or drive.

The Mrs is out in the snow in the MX5 on winters, and not significant issues so far. (Drove it all last year on the summers)

Well, my MX5 has sat covered in snow whilst I've struggled in the E Class for a week. Sod it, I thought this morning, it can't be any worse can it?

Bag of cement for weight over the driven wheels and a shovel in the boot and off I set, it was brilliant and performed where heavier FWD and RWD cars couldn't.

A delicate right foot, being in the right gear and forward planning to minimise use of non ABS brakes is required, but it performed admirably - I did get some funny looks though!

ETA this is all on the supposed worst tyre known to man, Pirellis all round!

Nah, mine is tucked up in the garage in this weather, its low profile Toyos offer zero grip & as I live in a hilly area with twisty narrow roads I'm not risking damaging my baby!

The Rover 45 Diesel is a real snowplough however, but I miss my '5....roll on decent weather!!

Loved my MX5 in the snow.. Its been brilliant, not been sliding all over the place unless I've wanted it to. Its got Paradas on the rear and err.. Firehawk on the front, the front aren't the best but seem to send me in the right direction when the rears are just spinning.

Really easy to turn around in this weather too.. On the loud one and it spins around

Waiting for the Mrs to return from work. We have identified a large closed tarmac area with no bollards... I intend to perform some experiments to work out the benefit of the Nokians.

thought it was fine until I lost and smacked a curb, cue 1 broken rim and a very red face. 30 mile drive to work over the heads of the valleys road and then bang 20ft from work, should change my name to Rodney.

Mine seems to be alright.. Just driven up the hill I live on past all the cars abandoned at the bottom of the hill.

These maybe there though because they reckon snow is coming in the night and they've pre-empted this..

Still using my mk3 as my every day car. Had no problems, just good fun. Enjoying watching toy/pretend 4x4 (never) off roaders lose it on the bends, while I just carry on.

Ground clearance is a major problem with this deep snow! Other than that, grip wasn't too bad (not great by any means!) Certainly manageable with a light right foot. Struggled in the deep deep stuff on my road, think my bumper was acting as a snow plough and hampering my progress as a result!

Watch out for hgv's on hills as they appear not to be able to manage them without a run up. Its not a pleasant sight seeing one sliding down the road towards you!
