Link to the actual new post

Hi folks, would it be possible to implement this so that when you click on the link it takes you to the post and not just the page the latest post is on?

Will save a fair old amount of wear on my mouse scrolling wheel now i've discovered big girls page lengths.

Only ask as it's common place on other forums so could be easy to implement?

Unless there's a good reason it's not used?

But this isn't like other forums; in that it's hand-built, as opposed to using some standard forum software

Good point, and i appreciate it's uniqueness.

The wide spread use of it would suggest it was a fairly simple piece of code to be added.

If i'm wrong, feel free to chastise me to the fullest, it's no less than i deserve.

But in all seriousness though, I don't recall that specific request coming up before (not to say it hasn't). Therefore I'd personally think that it's not that high up on the priority list of PHers.

But do bear in mind that there is similiar functionality already there in terms of the clicking on the little page link on each thread which will take you to the page with the first new post since your last visit, along with the big blue separator bar, so you can easily see it. But as you say, you could be scrolling to the end of the page

It's my number one request, not mucking about when I say that either.

No no, sorry I wasn't clear.
Say I post in a thread on page 45 then overnight the thread gets to 100 pages, when I click on My Contributions and the thread is listed, when I click it I would like to be taken to my last post in the thread.
This is the thing most off the shelf forums offer, but like you say, this one is custom built, maybe that helps or hinders, who knows.

Aye, it's a case of "posts since last visit".

Just the same as your my stuff links, only it scrolls straight to the blue bar.

In fact, if you have a program to put the blue bar in then i'm sure you could alter the code to automatically scroll to there on opening the page as it must have the code to put the blue bar there in the 1st place?

Both linking to an individual post and jumping straight to the blue bar are both good ideas.

Jumping straight to the blue bar is easy enough to do, so I'll try and find time for it on the development schedule soon.

The linking to an individual post is a little more complicated as it will require a button putting on the page to allow people to grab the link and then educating people to use it, but I'll make sure it's added to the list of ideas (if it isn't already) so that it isn't forgotten.

I don't like the new system.

I surf PH faster than the blue bar updates. So instead of ending up at the last unread post I end up at the blue bar which can be quite a way behind the times.

And I'm too busy trying to post in every single thread there is to be dealing with these delays
I scroll to the bottom of the page and it yanks me back up to the blue bar!

It will only yank you to the blue bar if you click the icon. If you just want to go to the last page then just click the last page of the thread and it won't mess you about.
