Right people i ate like a king in the first 2 weeks, now i miss my mummys cooking, fed up of cooking every night and have had spaghetti bolognese for the past 4 nights.
Hit me with some non ponced about, relatively quick and inexpensive meal ideas.
I've got the basics covered (bangers/mash, pizza, all that jazz) so please some interesting tasty suggestions would be very welcome.

Ask for Yotam Ottolenghi's "Plenty" as a Christmas present.
It's vegetarian, but don't let that put you off, unlike most vegetarian books it's not a joyless compendium of hair-shirt penance put together by someone who hates food - it's full of interesting Mediterranean dishes, including a fair number you can make up massive quantities of and freeze for quick pre-pub dinners.
Plus because it's all veg, it's dirt cheap, less than the cost of some value bangers and a bag of chips for a lot of the recipes.
Failing that, the usual cottage pie, chilli and so on work well. Save the plastic containers from your next takeaway and make double/triple portions, too, nothing like dinner being a quick zap in the microwave away when you're still hung over mid-afternoon.

A good tip to change up your frozen bolognese is to add a bit of cumin powder, some kidney beans and some chilli - hey presto - con carne.
Just pasta with a knob of butter and grated cheese is good.
Steak and steamed broccoli.
Tuna melt - thick bread, rip some out of the middle, toast lightly, fill with tuna/mayo/spring onion, top with tomato, chese and grill.
Make a vat of homemade soup and freeze.
Doner Kebab Pot Noodle.

d! There are plenty of 'student cooking' books.I recommend the soups, really easy and you can pick up a hand blender for a few quid.
It is much cheaper (per head) to cook large meals. Can you start a supper club for around 6 people where you each cook on Wednesday evening in turn for the whole group? Or, if you are Billy No-Mates, do you have enough tupperware to freeze 5 portions? Stews and Casseroles are the way forward!
Stir fries are pretty quick.
Scrambled eggs on toast - with or without a couple of rashers of bacon.
Chicken, mushroom and courgette pasta - add a couple of teaspoons of dijon mustard and a pouring of double cream or a dollop of creme fraiche and mix!
Tuna pasta - onions, peas and tuna mixed with a tin of Campbell's condensed mushroom soup.
Cheese on toast
Chicken stuffed with Boursin, wrap in tin foil and in the oven for about 20 mins. Serve with spuds and veg.
Salmon, either wrapped in tin foil and in the oven for about 20 mins or fry off. I chop a load of dill and mix with creme fraiche for a sauce (warm). Serve with veg of your choice.

i like this idea, luckily not billy no mates so i may put that idea to the group. Thanks for all the other suggestions people, i will keep you all updated and at the end of my uni life will post a photo of my rotund self, instead of my current skin and bones physique
Tonight I did a quick cook curry ideal for this thread.
Fry some chicken chopped into small pieces. Add some spices, I used chilli, cumin, coriander, turmeric and garam masala though a ready made curry poweder would work just as well. when the chicken is half cooked, add a large onion, coarsely chopped and a red pepper.
Takes about 10 mins total, serve with rice.
