Hi all
I have a question about changing alloy wheels on my 635d. Because of the snow I have decided to get a set of winter tyres. I discovered these on Ebay complete with alloys : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-BMW-E6...5f6d671ab#s... which I think should do the trick. My question is, would they fit my 6 series without any problem? here is some info from real OEM

My current alloy wheels

Here is the ones I'm after

Many thanks in advance.

James.

There's a 10mm difference in offset between those two wheels. I can't see that making a huge difference or being a problem though. (I can never remember how offsets work though, so can't say if they will be 10mm further in or further out.)

Are you using 8J wheels front and rear?

The wheels you have bought are going to sit net approx 9.3mm further in towards the inner wheel arch, depends on how much room there is on the current wheels before contact is made with the suspension strut/ dampers, watch clearence on calipers also. 5-10mm (hubcentric) spacers may be required.

The 10mm difference in offset shouldn't be a problem at the wheels are a half inch narrower. The wheel bolt holes will be 14mm as opposed to 12mm though, and there is no mention of centre bore sizes.

The OE wheels are an 8.5J and 9J so fitting 8J all round might mitigate the offset differences?

May be, try it and see, as BMW winter wheels package for the 6er are 8x18 ET14 or 7.5x17 ET14.

Many thanks for the replies all. Its good to know that I can fit them. I may get the 10mm hubscentric spacers, but il see if they will go on as they are. Just need to get some different bolts.

Make sure you let your insurance company know mate....A mate of mine is now having mega hassles after someone went in to his x5 a couple of days back! He was in an X5 to which he fit winter tyres and the insurance company are kicking up a mega fuss as to why he didnt tell them he modified the car!

Apparently you don't need to let them know if its only the tyres but you do if you change the alloys too.

How/When was it spotted that he had winters on?

When his car went to the bodyshop for repair they noticed non standard alloys and let the insurance company know) - after which the insurance company rang him to ask him why he hadnt let them know he changed the wheels as that is a "modification".

As I said above, I think more than the tyres the problem lay with him having smaller alloys (as BMW X5 winters sit on smaller alloys) his car does look a bit odd as its a full fat 4.8is M Sport with wide arches and now it rides on smaller 17 or 18" rims and you can just tell its not the way it left the factory!

I think if he fit 20" winter tyres to his standard alloys he would have been fine...

From memory they have a chat/help online facility which works pretty well.

I think you need to tell them you are changing the alloy wheels rather than the tyres mate..
