Well I haven't got one as I'm working abroad (it's bloody cold here but no snow yet). Anyway my wife last night drove 35 miles in our RX8, with the final part of the journey a drive up hill for about 100 m's, she had no problems, no scares I was well chuffed!

BTW, my wife is is 5ft 4" and is light as a feather, in case any of you were thinking she is a bloater and her weight would have helped.

Last year the barge (a 4.0l Jag) was left parked on a small slope but due to the ice, when I started her, she simply would not go up, just sideways! It really was like a skating ring. Fortunately, there was a brand new Range Rover sitting there. Less fortuntly, the owners had gone away so no help there.

Quick round up of the local kids and yoofs (ranging from my ten year old nephew to the 22 year old mate of another nephew who happened to be passing) and we had a plan. One crew got the shovels and anything we could find to scrap the ice. My sister and her mates got going with the hot water and me and some kid managed to find a grit bin with some grit in it just down the road. Bin and contents liberated and I decided it best to let the Jag roll down the road to straighten out and then inch her slowly back up the newly sorted road surface.

Kids lining the side of the road to prevent any damage (kids can be replaced, Range Rovers cost more!) and finally the Jag was back on a decent road and free from her wintry prison.

We then realised my sister au pair should have simply sat in the back seat being as she has got to weigh well upwards of 22 stone - I jest you not!

I will know better this year than to park the car on that hill, at night, when it is like a skating rink. Or, I'll only go to see my sis when the she-beast is available as ballast!

Back stepped out in the Forester as I came out an icy junction this morning.

I simply caught it with a dab of oppo and I was away.

If these are "heroic" snow driving stories I'm a driving god!

Seriously, I have driven to our office which had over 2 feet of snow, pulled a bmw out from the same snow with my car on ice, driven through snow drifts, etc etc etc

Just get on with it you namby pamby's!!!

I don't mean to blow my own trumpet but I completed a journey of nearly 20 miles this morning without winter tyres. Does anyone have the number for Guinness?

Before I set off I was a little nervous - surely as soon as I left my driveway the car would mow down a dozen children, explode and land upside down in a ditch. At the very least, my mismatched Hoisin SummerSoft CackCircles would result in the car pirouetting over a cliff.

Amazingly, by the grace of God I managed to make it to work alive. Either that or I somehow managed to drive in a manner appropriate to the conditions.

I've been driving the subaru everywhere sideways. It's brilliant.

It does sensible too, but that's boring.

Nothing looks more heroic and manly than abandoning your Smart car at the side of the road because your fingers are getting really cold trying to dig it out.

On the flip side it's been great fun doing slow motion 'power' slides when it hasn't been stuck.

You need one of these:

(assuming a normal shovel won't fit in a smart?!)

I had a shovel, it's just that I forgot my gloves and it really was hideously cold this morning.

I embellished the story a little for comic effect. I did get the Smart out but only after I'd taken a quick bacon sandwich break. To any spectators, it would have been a pitiful sight.

My heroism: Whilst not quite a young maiden... He was still in distress. Chuffing Renault 4 with burst radiator hose and snapped fan belt. Had to tow him home a few miles.

I've pulled heavier trailers! -14 in Aberdeen this morning. Cold! [url]

Is that the out of town office blocks around Daneston area? This year my cars been so pathetic that its been sitting there most of the week. The driving part is no problem, its whenever I have to park or stop which is the problem... frown
BUT last year... My sister's Mazda 3 was pathetic... She had not made it into work for days, and she needed to start working from home, problem, her work laptop ect were at work... 17 miles away from Inverurie, in Danestone... She was too scared to drive so I offered to soldier her there to pick it up! Passing cars doing 30 in the fresh snow, whereas I was soldiering on at about 50MPH. All uneventful until we realised that I had no shovel and that her work carpark had a foot and a half of snow not cleared... Solution, I just keep driving and plowing through doing anything I want and can, while she jumps in and out of the car at low speeds...

The best I've seen so far this year was spotted going down the A5 - we're in a seriously iced-up area here, the sort where in places ABS means you have no brakes at all. And coming out of a side turning from a lane was a TVR Tuscan coated in snow.

Balls indeed biggrin
