Funny how you don't notice most little design touches. Last night I was fiddling with my interior light. It has a setting which just illuminates the passenger seat so with or without a passenger it is very helpful for looking at a map or other paperwork when parked. Also, the stalk which dictates the wiper speed has a square section so you can feel when it is in an active position. "Off" has the faces vertical or horizontal only. Not sure why my door mirrors are different sizes though.
Your car must be a w124 or a w201!
Passenger side mirror is a different size so that it does not stick out as much: whereas it is easy for you to avoid hitting the driver's mirror because it is so very close to you, it is harder to judge the position of the passenger mirror because it is further away. To be fair, in the 1990s, LHD VW/Audi cars had smaller passenger side mirrors but unlike Mercedes they did not go to the trouble of doing the same for their RHD cars.
My w124 estate is fantastically well designed: everything I need, nothing I don't, and it all works beautifully and intuitively.
