Looking at getting some 15'' Cooper pepperpot wheels to tide me over for a few weeks, will these fit my R53 Cooper S (running 17'')?

Thanks x

If it's an R53, they should as long as you don't have the JCW brake upgrade.

Thanks, they do indeed fit and look quite funky actually!

For reference - a pic of the new wheels on the S.

Nice. smile 't Will probably be a lot more fluent and amusing to drive than with the 17s though maybe lacking a bit of outright grip for the S (not that this matters in the current road conditions wink ).

Slightly softer ride (although not as much as I'd expected from what I've heard) and good in the snow but appalling grip - I'd forgotten what skinny tyres felt like! Feels like you're going to tip over going round corners, while the standard tyres grip awesomely.

The taller profile of the tyre will help smooth out the ride a bit. When it dries out you may find it turns in slightly sharper too, the pepperpots are much lighter than the S spokes.

Not sure what tyres are on now, but both my R50 One and current R56 Cooper felt/feel anything but 'as if they're going to tip over' on their OE 175/65 guise (lowly Michelin Energys and Conti PremiumContacts respectively) while I found the OE 17"/ runflat combo on other cars makes the Mini feel as if the tyres are filled with concrete (a bit like an Audi, then hehe). Loads of grip, but rather inert and low on finesse in comparison.

Sure what's on those wheels are no ditchfinders, and correctly inflated? The only other thing I can think of is the weight difference between N/A Coopers and Cooper S - could it be as much as 100 kg, like for like?

For traction the skinny tyres may have a bit of a fight on their hands with the S's output, I'll give you that... hehe

They're Pirelli P3000s, no idea if they're considered any good? Got them off ebay - bargain new tyres with alloys. When the snow clears up I'm going to get some newish runflats on the old alloys and sell the car. Yes they're properly inflated, and they're 175/65s.

I'd like to try some 17'' non-runflats, see how they go.

Never used P3000s so can't really comment on them. Quite fancy a set of 15" pepperpots myself for next Winter... wink

I got rid of run flats for standard tyres on the standard 17s - A massive difference. The car rides much better and is much less crashy over bumps/potholes and there's much more lateral grip on offer from them. I'd recommend making the switch to anyone and just keep a tin of tyre sealant in the boot (that reminds me, I need to put a tin in my car ha!).
