I'm itching to take my MTB out in the snow but am currently helmetless so don't want to risk it. There seems to be so much choice that I'm struggling to choose a new one. Ultimately I guess a lot is down to personal fit and comfort, but that aside can anyone give any recommendations? I can only really afford to spend up to about £50 at the moment and the helmet will be used mainly for offroad trail riding. A couple I've considered so far are the Giro Indicator and the Specialized Tactic. Are either any good?

Met helmets are worth a look, I'm very impressed with the one I've had for a few years.

Go and try some on, that is the only real way of knowing if they will fit comfortably, took me ages to find a helmet I liked, I found both Giro and Specialized helmets uncomfortable, ended up with a Met Valeno which fits me perfectly and looks good!

In the mean time you could just get a cheapo uni-size helmet for £20 so you can get out riding.

Got a cheapo Bell at halfords for £25, from a couple of feet away look no different to £60+ models, weighs the same, very comfortable fit and if I drop it I won't have a heart attack throwing it away and buying another.

I have a Spec Tactic. V comfy, especially the little zippy wheel at the back which tightens the band around your head. You almost don't need the chin strap.
