Just want to sanity check my logic....

I am about to order a company car (for March/April 2011 delivery) and trying to work out whether to go for the 3 or 4 year lease. I currently have an E92 M Sport and I want to time the lease so that it expires in the March after the E92 replacement M Sport is launched. If I remember rightly, the M Sport is out a year after the SE and the models are replaced every 7 years.

So if the cars are replaced every 7 years, the E92 SE was launched in Sept 2006 and the E92 M Sport was launched in Sept 2007. So by those maths the next 3er coupe SE will be out in Sept 2013 and the M Sport in Sept 2014?

So if I go for a 4 year lease from March 2011 then the car will be up for replacement in March 2015 just after the new shape M Sport coupe is launched.

Does that make sense?

Hiya

You're actually wrong in all aspects there. The next 3 series is codenamed F30 and is earmarked for launch/release 2011/12, so most likely the US will be amongst the first to get it this sort of time next year, and probably us in the UK a few months later.

I haven't got access to that road map announcement of forthcoming models at the moment though, so I don't know the actual months. It may well be early 2012 when the actual release is.

You'll need to re-assess your plans it seems !

Cheers, Dennis!

I usually am! However the F30 will replace the E90 which was launched in March 2005 so a March 2012 replacement fits the 7 year assumption. The F32(?)Coupe would be 12-18 months later and a F32 Coupe M Sport a year after that which is 2014...

Hiya

Thing is, your mixing up trim levels with bodyshapes.

The 3 series has the different platforms - saloon, touring, coupe and convertible, and the Coupe was last out a fair while after the 4 door saloon was. However 'M Sport' is a trim level, there might not be a next generation 3 series with M Sport designation from the factory for all we know!

Also, with things being in a bit of fluidity given the economy and purchasing trends, you don't know that the coupe will indeed come out 12-18 months after the saloon, they might do it within 3 months for all you know (we know as in the car community) if you look at the new 6 series, I believe the Covertible is being announced prior to the coupe! so you logic is still fundamentally flawed if you are wanting a similar 'trim' level for the next 3 series shape.

Cheers, Dennis!

exactly as denniscooper said. the E9x 3er is due for replacement in 2011/2012. for all you know, the coupe could be released only a few months after the saloon, and an M sport trim level of that new coupe may be available from just 3 months so there could be a new M sport 3er coupe as early as 2012. there is no real way to tell. pop into your local dealer, they may be able to help, though i doubt it.
