Bodybuilding through heavy steering
Discussion
The steering has always been a bit heavy when you get beyond 15 degrees or so. Took it back to Henley who assured me the UJ was OK and perhaps the steering colomn is a bit tight.
Steering now is a huge effort at low speed (still hear the power steering though & fluids looks OK). I have a warranty with the car - has anyone ever had a steering colomn have a failure not through the dreaded wear & tear so that they were successful with a claim on the warranty?
Cheers

Bought my Chim with the knowledge that the rack was a 'bit worn' and am waiting to have a recon one put in.
In the meantime I stuck a couple of 225s on the front.
Handling went from 'a bit bizzare at times' to 'like driving a laden milkfloat' at low speeds.
At high speed it started behaving like an old shopping trolley.
PAS seemed to be working ok etc.
Decided that the new wider tyres has finally done for my ailing rack and started driving a lot slower
and prayed for the recon rack to be ready to fit soon. About a week later, guess what?
Over a level crossing and about 40mph and it's cured!
All I can guess is that something somewhere didn't like being jacked up and had decided to seize up.
I'm now back to 'slightly bizzare ' handling, which I can live with.
Got any railway lines near you virtualfern?Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
