Panasonic TX50VT20B
Discussion
Right, as per the advise on this forum, I have gone out and bought the above. Least I hope it was the advice of this forum that I should buy that one!
Now that I have it what do I do with it?!
Not yet received the free 3D Blu-rays. Don't have any 3D games to play on it. What games should I try? I only have a PS3.
Also no sample 3D disk in either the TV or Blu-ray boxes. Should there not have been one?
Additionally, I don't seem to be able to get the 3D YourTube (yt3d) videos to play in 3D. The video does plays in the side by side mode, and I did go into the 3D setting of the TV and change it from Auto to Side-by-Side. However (I think) as soon as I access the Viera Cast, it switched back to Auto and I don't see any 3D effect.
What am I doing wrong?
TIA

Forgive me if I'm wrong - but does this TV actually have the 2D to 3D conversion facility built in. I don't think it has - unlike say some Samsungs. I stand to be corrected though without going back and checking. How do you find the rest of the TV - I'm thinking of buying. Have you noticed 'blurring' when watch sport or fast panning pictures ?
No it doesn't do 2D-3D 'conversion' which I don't buy into as anything but a gimmick to push the notion of 3D being the be all and end all.
3D is as much a gimmick really, even when properly produced and replicated.
As for 2D performance - state of the art for Direct View Displays, so you will NOT be the least bit disappointed when watching 2D fast-paced material.

Advice from an internet forum
In what way is it any less 'correct' than other formats - e.g. telephone convo with a store employee?

I have been following PH for a good few years and so far I have never been lead astray. My wallet is a lot lighter mind

Additionally, the general recommendation was for the Pany TV range and not the 3D specifically; that was just me looking for my next gadget "fix".
The Pany is replacing a Hitachi Monitor that had rave reviews from the magazines for its technical capabilities (but slated on its original price ~£2.5K). So when the price dropped to £500 18 months later I bought it but have never been happy with it. Comparing the Hitachi to the Pany is like comparing night and day! Literally!
So reputable magazine reviews 0 : PH 1. And long may it continue!

The Hitachi "ALiS" 1080i panel was a novel approach to dealing with interlaced broadcast signals, and DVD output, but never gained any real traction.
As it was, they stopped fighting the tide, and left it to the progressive panel producers and users, which paved the way for Fujitsu, then Pioneer to produce the State of the Art products.
In fact, on processing, I believe no-one has yet managed to match Fujitsu's - focus has mainly been on black levels.
