Just returned from OZ.. I need a car.....

As the title says I have just returned from Australia after backpacking for 2 years. Hi . During that time I sold my beloved Lexus GS300 Sport (mk1) so need some new wheels.

Now given my financial situation (broke) I have a relatively small budget - £1,500 - and need something that isnt going to cost a fortune to run and maintain.. but as a car person I also dont want to run around in your typical rep mobile or 'popping to the shops' car as I want something with a bit of character that isnt just a means of transport.... which kinda limits my options.

What I have thought of so far..

Alfa 156 - would love the V6 but might be a bit thirsty so sensible head says 2L (this may be classed as a rep mobile but the best looking rep mobile for that money)

BMW E30 of some sort.. maybe a VW Corrado, MK2 Golf..

...and still thinking, but would welcome any recommendations or if you have seen any cars in the classifieds that caught your attention and meet the above requirements, please post the link.

I have considered a celica as well... A while back I was looking at the Carlos Sainz GT4.. or the ST205.. I'll look again..

..a bit out of my range for a good'un.
