Now i've only been here (PH) a few weeks but it seems to me that we hear a lot about duff decisions by the police.

I've had 2 meetings with police men.

1) Drunk on a push bike in the dark no lights on the wrong side of the road (residental street 2:30 AM). The car comming the other way turns out to be a Panda car. The officer stops me, and advises me that he'd like my name and address, and would I mind pushing the bike the rest of the way home as i'm in no fit state to be on the road.

2) The school i was working at had a break in. And I was the last person to lock up. Officer "It was you what done it wasn't it". Me "Eh...no" Officer "fair enough".

Now on both occasions the Officer was polite, asked sensible questions, and made a good decision. (Particularly as i believe riding a bike while drunk is against a few laws!)

Anybody else out there have good/funny experiances with your local Plod?

(yes i should be working, yes i am bored, and no i cant spell.)

Only the one, not prepared to post details really but I can assure you it was properly amusing.

All other times they have come across as arrogant jumped up social inadequates.

Not that I am saying that all coppers are like just the ones I have met...

I got pulled a while ago doing horendous speeds on the M1 at about half two in the morning on a weekend.

After being breathalysed and coming up clear the policeman was rather shocked and told me to be on my way "bearing the speed limit in mind" and that was it.

Nice bloke.

Driving along in my old Audi Coupe 'making progress' shall we say and next thing I know there are blue light flashing and I get pulled over for a chat. I pulled in next to a pub and while I'm getting a talking to, some old guy comes out of the pub and starts mouthing off to the policeman 'Leave him alone, go and catch the real criminals' and much more as well.

Anyway, one of the police says 'you can go' and they leg it after the old guy who is now doing a runner!!

Munter, IMHO many of the threads over the last couple of weeks have been unnecessarily "down" on the police. Of course there are always a few who are not up with the best, but we're blessed with some excellent, wholesome and positive police on PH that are a credit to their police forces. If you've come in late to the PH party you may have picked up a distorted view of the way police are discussed here.

A few weeks ago I watched some of the child pornography prosecution programmes on BBC2. I couldn't believe some of the things these guys were up to -- and the unfailing politeness of the police towards them.

One experience....

Outside of Southampton doing 50% more than the posted limit at 1am.
Sir - if I breathalyse you and you are clear you can go on your way, if you come up amber I will book you for speeding, if you come up red I will be calling for backup.

Me - Fair enough, I haven't had a drink in a week

I go on my way about 2 mins later feeling very very lucky and will never be that far over the posted speed limit again

Making my way home down the M5 at 5 am after doing a night shift. A cold claggy morning, and I'm not looking forward to the journey on my ZZR. "making progress" as I want to be in my warm bed as soon as possible. The motorway is totally deserted, but I notice car headlights a long way back. These headlight are making even more progress than I am...considerably more !!!. I figure its someone else taking advantage of the quiet time of day to cover some miles quickly. Looked in the mirror again, and JESUS !!!!!!!!! he really is moving !!. Obviously it's not the bib coz they would have blue lights on at that speed. A few seconds later, out of the corner of my eye I see the blue stripe slowly pull past me about 6 feet away to my right. I glanced down, and my face must have said it all (Like oh sh*t, how can I have been so stupid). The co driver looked back up at me through the passenger window, grinned with a face that suggested "didn't think it was us did you?", wagged his finger at me, then his mate floored it. It made me smile all the way home.

All the dealings I have had with Police have proved them to be someone I can easily approach and speak to.

As with everything else, you don't hear many "well done's" or "thank you's" because thats what we expect since it's a service we have become acustomed to recieving...

Treat a Policeman with the respect they deserve and I find you're treated decently back.

Have two mates who are in the force.
Both are thoroughly nice guys, the one rides bikes in his spare time so my bro and him get on like a house on fire.

To the welsh w*nker of a copper who thought itd be funny to try and screw kid bro for speeding while he was in a patrol car (no caibrated speedo and on his todd) and while at least 5 cars behind him, i say: Grow up and grow some balls you jumped up little adolf.

As you can see, theres both good an bad in the force but id hope that the majority are good.

Last year I spotted a guy tramping around in our driveway at 2am, looking in the car window, looking in house windows etc. We live on a busy main road and the fact that he would have jumped the 6ft perimeter wall somewhere meant that I had no hesitation in calling 999.

It took just 2 minutes to have 2 police cars, 1 transit and 1 dog van to be parked outside our house, whereupon the police used night vision goggles and the dog to thoroughly search the outbuilding and the garden.

Nobody there (probably heard them coming) but it certainly made me feel safer. They were just as quick to attend to a neighbour's house whose alarm went off at 4am.

So to the good policemen of the Met (Hillingdon area) thanks very much

Many in truth and rarely any problems with BiB.

Maybe it depends on your attitude when stopped or maybe its because I'm older and therefor no longer some young kid in a sports car.

Generally I have nothing but respect for these people.

Sadly, like everything else in life, there's the odd one who spoils it for the others but, hey ho, that's life.

Now traffic wardens and laser camera operators
