Also posted in the Food section.

My wife has been instructed to try a low-GI diet on health grounds. For a lover of all things pasta, baguette, chips and potato related, I think she is going to struggle!

I have googled the concept and there seems to be lots of varieties of the same theme e.g. some say jacket potatoes are not too bad, some say they are the GI devil etc.

Can anyone give me any hints, links, tips or food / recipe ideas? We have started with the basic chamge which is anything white is now brown!

Brown is good, so are fiberous vegetables such as broccoli. Try sweet potatoes instead of normal

It's piss easy to follow because it isn't a diet in the popular sense - it's a lifestyle choice. I use it because to eat the usual way meant I was always falling asleep at my desk. biggrin I also find it useful when planning to do hard physical activities (whether it's fitness training or climbing).

Just get a basic book on it and it will list low and medium foods that you can eat. http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/

The OH is essentially on a low GI lifestyle at the moment. It's helping the weightloss. But meal planning is getting to be a pain.

We've done a lot of "Meat and 2 veg" where I've had potato and shes had a corn on the cob instead.

How bad is pastry?

For example, quiche?

Im following it at the minute to help with diabetes. Basically do your best to avoid carbs. So meat, cheese, veg, baked beans, eggs, yogurt, fish are all ok but keep any carbs with tea to a minimum. So when we have a casserole i have a small scoop of mash or dont bother. The other to think about is any takeaway food you have, fish and chips are fine so long as you remove the batter from the fish and have half the chips. Can be very annoying and a bit more planning needed for meals but it does work. Good luck!

Thanks all.

Red pepper and chorizo risotto for dinner tonight now - risotto rice appears to be 'medium' and pretty sure everything else that goes into it (stock, onions, peppers and chorizo) is 'low'.

Can you get wholemeal risotto rice??
