Gordon Murray T25 ???
Discussion
IINM, a couple of months ago he was quoted as saying that it should cost IRO 6k.
A big part of the challenge for those cars is that they're really intended for a different kind of road network, with a different "gage", if you will, of lane. Without that, much of the potential practicality of the car is wasted.

If it was brand new, with warranty etc. for less than £4k I could be interested and see the point. Any more than that and it doesn't serve a purpose - which I fear is why nobody appears to be willing to build it.
If it was as you say i would be interested its as near to an F1 i may ever get to lolflemke said:

I would of thought you would love one it has no turbo and has three seats and is made by a truly great man imo at least you have the king of all his creations

Given Murray last made the SLR and then this daft wheelie bin with windows was the F1 just a fluke?
18 years of designing world-class racing cars would suggest that he knows a few things. One might debate whether Barnard or Southgate or Newey or Murray or somebody else was the single "best" racing car designer of the last 30 years, but it doesn't matter. Trying to split those hairs would be like saying that you wish you had the driving skills of Senna, but you wouldn't settle for having those of Prost, because at the very margin Senna might in your opinion have been better. All these designers are extraordinarily clever people to begin with. After spending decades at the sharp end, they know what they are doing far beyond what we punters are able to assess credibly.
In the case of the T25, I think it has not taken commercial form as quickly as it might have done for two reasons:
- Because it took GM many years to get the necessary backing, and independence, to develop it, ideas that were fresh when he conceived them were less so when he finally pitched them to large manufacturers. By that latter time, they all had their own teams working on related things. How often is an in-house team comprising hundreds of people going to be willing to abandon all that they have developed in order to allow themselves to be supplanted by an independent external team?
- As I wrote above, to maximise its potential, the T25 needs narrow-gage roads. It wouldn't work well enough in the UK, because our relatively wide roads would waste too much space. It needs its own city.
The thing is not pretty, but it does what it is meant to do. Not many lawnmowers are pretty, but who cares? Like other PHers, I love a beautiful car, but that doesn't mean that an ungainly car that is highly practical has no place in the world. It's just not something to be looked at.
If we can abide the ridiculous designs of current Formula One cars, we can cope with thousands of T25 in lieu of an equal number of SMARTs, Nanos and G-Whizzes.

The longer i spend on this site the more i think that looks are way way more important to your average pistonheader then anything else.If we can abide the ridiculous designs of current Formula One cars, we can cope with thousands of T25 in lieu of an equal number of SMARTs, Nanos and G-Whizzes.
Also anything that dares challenge the norm must be hated

Gordon Murrary will sell the Intellectual Property and Design/Licensing rights to various manufacturers who in turn will put their own unique design touch on it to distinguish it from other sellers (think Citroen C1, Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 107)
No he will not. That was the idea, but it seems nobody has taken him up on it. The fact that he 'launched' it with official pics last year suggests that there is no deal in place. The whole thing is now being touted as an engineering study to develop his manufacturing methodology.
Shame really, but the thing would never be less than 8 to 10k if sold so it does seem a little pointless; you can get a 'proper' car for that money.

Reading a few interviews about him, the mcf1 and the mcmerc slr, he wanted to do something different for the time being, he did state he will go back to doing supercars as somepoint!Gassing Station | General Gassing [Archive] | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
