ICE ALERT!!!! Dorset & other areas too no doubt
Discussion
Watch out peeps, it's -5 here in N Dorset & its raining!!!! Just been out to walk the dogs & its absolutely lethal out there.
The roads are like polished glass!!!!!
I could hardly stand up on them, the dogs did'nt know what to do on it lol
Check what its like if you go to work in the morning as I can guarantee there will be plenty of crashes tonight/tomorrow. Its the one time I think I'd prefer to stay at home & NOT venture out in the car.

ICE?1 IN MINUS TEMPERATURES?! OH GOD, THE LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS HAVE BEEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN!!!

Its the fact it raining quite heavily onto a frozen surface, in sub zero temps & freezing pretty much instantly that will be the problem & will cause a lot of chaos.
Is this not what they call an ice storm? (ok to a lesser effect maybe)
Pah! Minus 5? We'd be cracking out the speedos and factor 50.

Yes we've had -8 & lower much of the week too & I've travelled the country all week too, but is it raining & pretty much instantly freezing up solid where you are? If so go & have walk outside - carefully I might add.
Very strange weather indeed & not something I'd normally post up about.

I remember, during the last cold spell at the beginning of this year, that one night it was just warm enough to rain, but was very windy too. The subsequent wind-chill on the wet surfaces meant that everything - parked cars, roads, etc. - were covered in what looked like 5mm thick transparent orange peel in the morning!

I'm in Poole, right by the lake right at this moment and its raining and a little bit icy, about plus 5 degrees. No bother. y282 said:

Chucking it down in Wimborne now, and freezing on contact quite literally wil be a skating rink out there now. was minus -3 when i got home at 6pm and the condense pipe on the boiler had frozen and backed up the boiler, left the car down the bottom of the hill but i don't think i'll go anywhere tomorrow unless it warms up dramatically.

I've just helped a neighbour with exactly the same problem! Just been up a ladder as his condenser boiler pipe exits his fascia and into his frozen gutter.Had to remove the pipe and defrost the ice then refit it again! My hands were frozen!Gassing Station | General Gassing [Archive] | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
