First of all, the link

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1993-FORD-ESCORT-RS-COSWORTH...

Now a friend just sent me this on facebook, saying how good he thinks it is blah blah

I think it's disgustingly horrible, even if it is genuine ford colour that they used on the Focus, it should stay on the Focus... right?

Oh, and if anyones late night eye's are bleeding, let me clense..

Nasty colour, OTT aftermarket stereo install.

Way too expensive for one that looks like a Saturday Night special.

That's my slant.

I don't think the colour is necessarily a problem, but the front splitter looks daft and the wheels don't suit black colouring.

Two sets of tyres since 1993
2 years off the road different times

snapped cambelt... Service failure or skimping or bad luck
£3000+vat for a paintjob unless he stripped the car and prepared it then it's a very cheap job and should look it in the flesh. Colour choice will narrow future buyers as most want mint stock cars

ice - up to individual I stick with stock buy the oem item I want.

280 bhp since 1997.. Mapped

Only £500 a pop on new tyres cheap skate

also mega money. A STD one would be similar or less therefore I'm totally not interested

How about a nice zs 260? V8 power

I completely agree.

I've never understood why these cars are worth such silly money. Even in decent colours they fetch around £10k. To me, it's still an escort, and all I can think is for that money I could buy a proper car. Like a TVR Cerbera

You have to bring your own CD if you want to hear the chaveo at work, now THAT is tight-fisted.

HOW MUCH?!

That aside, it looks like it's just waiting to go pop. 50bhp over standard just from a remap, for thirteen years? No wonder the thing lunched a turbo.

And that colour's never been used on any RS model, so how it's "RS" Electric Orange is beyond me..

I'm glad none of you like it, i feel a little bit warmer inside

As for deleting my mate, his good motor finding skills are usually on par, he must have had some shandy or wine gums today

Seriously. Do NOT ever admit to being 'on par' with this guy.

What he said, an Escort Cosworth should be as it left the factory or have been properly modified with all of the money spent on the bits that matter. A wheel swap is allowed but only if it is for something that suits the car.

Maybe because they are rare, a fantastic car that defined a generation & still a great car today?

TVR is a totally different animal, can't really compare the two.

50bhp from a remap is easy, with about £500 of tuning, 340bhp is easily achiveable and generally pretty reliable. The only trouble is where to stop, not where to start!

Way, way over priced. Similar mileage decent Escorts are being offered for around 12/13K. The colour choice severely devalues the car IMO. If I bought it I would want it resprayed back to its original colour, so, to me it's only worth around 8k. Other than the colour and the price its not bad.

Its not really an escort though, its a sierra cosworth in disguise wink. The only body part it shares with a standard escort is the roof panel, the floor pan is sierra based. A 50bhp remap is nothing for a YB cosworth engine. I believe the original design spec was for the engine to run a reliable 300bhp however it was detuned for general road use. Correct me if im wrong on that, its been a while since I read the development story of the engine.

Yep, an Escort cossie is basically a Sapphire Cosworth with 4.5" lopped out of it, and a party frock on! The bodys were hand made by Karmen in Germany, and the big turbo ( that was slated for being too laggy for a road car) was basically built to meet group A homologation rules. They are surprisingly quite a different drive compared to a sapphire, shorter and more aggressive, and you really can feel the aero package working ( first road car ever to produce front & rear downforce!) down the lanes . With modern tuning techniques, almost 500 BHP is achivable without opening the engine, quite a feat for a 24 year old engine!

I will post pics of mine up when I get a chance, but I do agree that external mods should be limited to a nice set of wheels and maybe clear indicators & half smoked rear lights, horrible colours ruin a classic.
