So the thaw seems to have started in Dundee after 7 days of on/off snow, and has resulted in half my guttering hitting the deck last night frown

Not only has the guttering been ripped down, but so has the sofit (plank of wood holding the guttering on).

Anyone got any ideas of how major a job this is to get sorted, and costs? Or should I just get in contact with my insurance company?

Thanks

Unless you like ladders it's time to 'get a little man in' - a 'GALMI'.

Hopefully the cost of the job will be more than the amount by which the insurance company increases your premuim next year...

Been told it is called a Sofit*...I did question it too hehe

At the moment it effects 4 flats out of 8, so insurance companies have been called (well not in my case because they are closed until 8am Monday! irked )

  • I just goggled it...for starters it should be soffit! (bloody men hehe )
And he's partly right, but so are you.

Gutter very rarely fixes to a soffit, it's normally on the Fascia or rafter feet.

A minor job from my experience - had my guttering replaced a few months back and the rotten fascia came off as the roofers were taking it down. Off to the timber shop and it was repaired that same morning, as i already had tins of matching paint.

Yes but as the Fascia was ripped off, it's taken parts of the Soffit too by the looks of things.

Perhaps, but i'll be f8cking useless at doing any sort of manual work - i can't even fit my own carpet. My roofer is in Chessington so it might be easier for you to get some quotes from local tradespersons.

Get the house insurance called, it's what you pay it for.

I've claimed for a couple of things and the premium increase the following year has been negligible anyway.

It's only two stores...house on top of a house, but I describe them as flats wobble

The neighbouring/joined flats have lost some guttering too
