Excellent cars - i have a 1986 944 turbo.
Chassis is really balanced and the car may not have masses of power by todays standard, the chassis and handling more than makes up for this.
The S2 is thought to be the best of the bunch as servicing etc is cheaper than the turbo and the 3 litre engine is geared for fast cruising.
The germans knew what they were doing.....Now check when the cam and balance belts were last changed and also get the cam chains inspected.
Welcome to 944 ownership.

All belts up to date, one of the first things i checked!Chassis is really balanced and the car may not have masses of power by todays standard, the chassis and handling more than makes up for this.

Nice. Very nice.
I've always wondered about these. Tell me more......
Well, the journey home was essentially all motorway, bar about 2 miles...more twisties later tonight though I've always wondered about these. Tell me more......

However on the motorway....impressive, very impressive. The power delivery is so consistant and smooth, she just pulls and pulls, and for a 4 pot the engine is very refined. My previous car was a 4.0 XJS and i can honestly that the 944 is equally as smooth and refined as the cat was. My car is a 1991 model but i just couldn't believe how modern it feels...also the Germanic quality is excellent, it's nearly twenty years old but there are NO rattles or squeaks...and the doors have a lovely clunk.
I know it's early days but i've read up on them and seen a few but so far mine is living up to the reputation.
Great old cars and nice in that rare colour - enjoy!
Nothing much comes close to a 944 pound for pund (£) in terms of steering feel, balance and feeling special to own for such a small amount to buy. I've found them quite cost effective to run as well just find a decent small garage to look after it.
Over the years I've been lucky enough to have owned most of the models and even though they are getting a pretty ancient I still like them (in fact just bought a 944 ventillier to put back on the road).
My first one was the original 944 2.5, then much later on had a Turbo cabriolet, then an S2 3.0, then a Turbo Se then a 968 Sport then a Turbo silver Rose (S). I couldnt help myself when the 944 S came up locally - so that's a full house!
Great cars to drive its a good idea to keep it in regular use as due to age things start going wrong if not used very often.

Lovely Porsche, a chap from work just bought the boss's old 944 from him for a song (and £1500) and he loves it. Kudos for a 23 year old, really.
As for the pop up head lights, it goes without saying that the ladies love the raising of hardware at their presence...
Enjoy
I'm 25 and none of my mates have anything quite as "different" As for the pop up head lights, it goes without saying that the ladies love the raising of hardware at their presence...
Enjoy

i did have my 928 when i was 24 which was quite cool....until it ruined me.jeff666 said:
Thats a nice looking car,,, enjoy, just check out the rear part of the sills, they can rust quite badly there, i had the unfortunate job of welding one up earlier this year.
Thanks mate
It's previous owner (a PHer himself) spent a fair few sheckles getting the sills and arch corners etc sorted so no worries there
