I believe Subaru have lost the Evo/Impreza war by a mile.
Discussion
Not only did they take forever to make a Sedan of the Impreza, it looks very 'meh' when compared to the Evo.

I'm not sure that's really aimed at competing with the Evo, given that it has 150bhp and comes with 16" steel wheels.http://www.subaru.com.au/models/impreza/r/sedan/ex...

That's not the Impreza WRX/STI it's the R.

Looks a bit better, no?
I suppose thats the one i should have posted yeah, but compared to an Evox... Meh.

I know this sounds a little odd given they're in the same car niche but has the Impreza ever really directly competed with the EVO?
I mean the EVO has pretty consistently outgunned the Impreza (and many variants) in turns of outright performance but the Subaru has always offered a slightly more sane, charismatic (flat four) and cheaper alternative to the EVO.
In my opinion, it still does this. Infact the new Impreza hatchback is probably the first one I would be tempted by because to me it seems like a car that would be easy to live with and offers 9/10ths of the performance.
If the baseball cap parade don't like them anymore then all the better.

Wow this topic is really going to bring out the claws of the EVO/Impreza nerd zealots.
If you prefer the Impreza buy an Impreza and if you prefer the Evo buy an Evo.

I've come very close to buying a new Sti back in '07, however i wouldnt have had an Evo.
My wife has a 2010 scooby WRX-S at the minute and the only think she'd change it to is an STi.
No doubt EVO people will have their opinions too.
It just is what it is. Each to their own.

It stopped here for me.....

+1 the classic Impreza for me is by far the best looking of all Impreza's. The 'frog eye' model following it was disgusting, then the 02-05 versions were decent, but from 06 it went very downhill. Starting with one which had a grille like a Seat in 06 to the latest shape which is a disgrace IMHO, looks like a unwanted b
d lovechild of a Rover 25, Focus & a Proton.
I do like the evo 6 i must admit, the classic scooby, i'm a subaru fan but i think its aged worse than the evo although that may not be helped by some of the owners, rare you see a good clean classic and it looks very dated now
I think the evo's as standard have always had a bit more power been a bit stiffer and cost a bit more, if i remember when i was looking at things they were also even worse than the subaru to insure, to me they are a bit soulless compared to the scoob, that said given the right circumstances i could see myself getting one for a while and a lot of people on scoobynet and the mlr seem to have both at different times

Subaru have right royaly dropped the ball. The WRX STI saloon is priced at a scarcely believable 33000 pounds. This doesn't take into account the 950 quid first year VED, and doesn't include options like a rear wing or PPP. the equivalent Evo X is 25000 quid. Even the far quicker, far better Evo FQ 330 can be had for 30000 quid. If you pay Mitsubishi a few hundred quid you get the first three years servicing for free. Subaru have quite clearly gone mental, thinking they can charge between three, and eight thousand quid for a car which is not as good as the Evo. Completely stark raving bonkers.
