Discussion
Ok, for the one week starting from Monday i have decided to do an experiment.
Please feel free to carry out your own and report the results.
What i intend to do is to drive everywhere *within* the speed limits.
Yes i know its a stupidly dangerous thing to do, but hell, its for the cause so i may as well do it.
I want to see how many near misses i have, road rage incidents and other reportables just cos im sticking to the limits.
I want to see how unpleasant things are going to get.
I want to see how or if my driving deteriorates.
Id like to see how much extra time im watching the clock instead of watching the road.
Needless to say, if you dont hear from me the following week, then ill most likely be deceased, defunct, or er damaged.
Ill try and keep a log of miles travelled and incidents/lack of encountered, and also problems of attitude from other drivers.

I bet you dont last 7 miles, let alone 7 days!!!
I think you may well be onto something there. Having just been out in the GT i couldnt be bothered to stick to any of the supposed "limits cast in stone, cos if you go faster youll die" on the road.
Think its going to be a failure straight off as it seems that when you go slow, everyone else drives at you.
When you go fast and drive purposefully, they stay outa the way.

I tried that once, nearly fell asleep from boredom, started looking at the scenery instead, very dangerous pastime
But that is where you should be looking so that you can cover and plan for 'ALL' eventualities. Not just those that pop up right in front of your nose

I think you'll find that,especially, in area's where
the limit "should" be 40mph, but the authorities have in their wisdom reduced it to 30mph (for safety reasons) people will "take liberties," because they will perceive your speed to be very low.
Be prepared for pedestrians walking out in front of you, bicycles crossing your path, other drivers
pulling out at road junctions just in time to be T-boned,("well you were going so slowly I thought you were turning"), where have we heard that before!
Perception of speed is affected by surroundings, and reclassifing speed limits by the authorities, (i.e. 40mph to 30mph) on roads which clearly should NOT be so, will only lead to more of the accidents mentioned above. Perhaps this could explain the rise in accidents since the recent drive of lowering speed limits everwhere.
When you have completed your experiment and go back to "driving to conditions" as we all do, notice the change in attitude of others.
Good luck, hope you have ABS.
