Looking for a 'chill out' week somewhere early next year. Picture-postcard tropical island with some luxury but without spending megabucks - ideally we'd like to move Aitutaki closer to the UK! wink

So, where can you suggest for up to £1,500 pp flight + accomodation (say £2k - 2.5k all-in per person). Thoughts so far are:-
- Maldives (but will we get somewhere nice for that budget - found flights for <£700 so I guess some resorts will be in reach. Not Male though please... wink )
- Mauritius (wrong time for weather?)
- Antigua (budget again?)
- Elsewhere in Caribbean?
- Thailand (one of our favourite places, but a long way for a week)
- Belize? I know it's good for diving but what about snorkelling? One of those 'new' destinations that intrigues me, but is it worth 2 weeks and some 'sightseeing' inland (temples and jungle/wildlife)?

Discounted:-
- Egypt (done Sharm, want somewhere a little more special)
- Zanzibar (went there last year)

Thanks very much,

Martin.

Hawaii Big Island, west coast. If Aitutaki is too far then I guess that rules out Fiji.

Caribbean is good in April, warm & not the Hurricane season. Some of the all-inclusive places will teach you to dive within the cost.

Tobago is supposed to be the best place for diving out there.

In the Maldives you get fleeced for everything once you are there so I'm told - never been but know a few that have & come back with very empty wallets! hehe

Thanks all (except Hugo! :nonowink ).

Gili - would be a good shout if they weren't as difficult to get to - we're only looking at a week. Just discovered Belize is about 24hrs total trip as it's via Newark or Houston, so that's out.

Hawaii - again, maybe if it was 2 weeks.

Caribbean - is the logical place. What's Tobago like for snorkelling - neither of us are confident enough to learn to dive?
(Also with caribbean, how many places can you get to NOT via the US? I'd rather not go through US immigration as I know people who've missed connecting flights just because the queues have been huge.)

Maldives - will bear that in mind when looking at packages, thanks!

No need to transit the US to get pretty much anywhere in the Caribbean - plenty of direct flights.

havoc, if you decide to go to Tobago there is really only one area to go, and that is Speyside up in the top right hand corner. The southern area is pretty tacky and touristy, and too close to the airport.

Blue Waters Inn is nice and on the beach, and they have some decent enough snorkelling on some of the small islands and reefs just off shore.

May I suggest a specific hotel in Kenya, the Turtle Bay Beach Club , Watamu. http://www.turtlebay.co.ke/index.html
You snorkel straight off the beach into the national marine park ,we stay for 2 weeks & snorkel everyday, I think the beach has been voted in the top 10 in the world, very quite & uncrowded. 60% of holiday makers are repeaters ,we have been 4 times ,friends 10 times.
I cant recommend it enough.
On the map below the location is a bit off, it is actually the big pool below & to the left of the A marker.
