Recommend a compact

Need to recommend a compact camera to a relative abroad. Budget is around £150-£200 (street value - UK special offers not needed).

Important attributes are good close-up/macro mode and ease of use.

Small-ish size would be handy but doesn't need to be ultra-super-duper-slim or anything.

Any suggestions?

Canon Powershot or Panasonic Lumix.

Bought the missus a Panasonic Lumix FX-40 for her birthday in the summer. Spent months researching specs and viewing samples to find the best quality image and features in my price range (£100-150). Easily the best in it's class IMO.

Simple to use and all the features you require. No gimmicky crap that you won't use either. Feels really well built with a nice quality rubbery finish rather than just cheap plastic. Looks smart too.
