I'm going to be 19 early next year and have been looking at a few different cars, but taking in consideration that premiums are going up next year I won't be able to get a lot of different hot hatches, due to my age aswell.

I would really like an old classic and found this so would like to know what you guys think of it, pros, cons and general opinion is welcome.

I actually think it's very nice but unfortunately don't know much about that sort of thing, it does look as though the guy has made a good job of it & done it properly. Can't offer more than that I'm afraid.

Have you got an insurance quote yet? I can imagine all those mods are going to add up a bit as far as insurance is concerned & I'm not sure if you could get a classic policy at your age.

Declare all those mods and then see if it's cheap to insure...
Trust me it wont

Edit - Oh and you can get classic insurance at 19 but has to be low insurance group classics such a mini, beetle etc... Also they do not like big power modifications at all hence why my mini engine wise is near enough stock. Exterior modifications they deal with buy in the end I pay more than double what it would have been standard.
That looks a very nice car btw but doubt it would be a good daily proposition and as said insurance on the thing at your age would be a nightmare.

Looks nice enough aside of that awful chav pipe excuse for an exhaust. Stands out like a sore thumb.

Can't you get a Triumph Dolomite Sprint for that sort of money? I'd far rather have one of those.

Yeah insurance would be the biggest problem with it, I got quoted £1200 just for the standard car but maybe if I went to a specialist insurance company it might stick closer to that figure but will probably be at least £2000. This is the annoying thing about being young, loads of the cars I can afford I can't get decent insurance on.

It's a nightmare I agree. I think we've all been there, but it's getting especially bad at the minute with quotes running up to several thousands for the younger guys. I'm 27 and my insurance is silly high at the minute for some reason!!!

Try and be a little bit oddball in your thinking, see if you can find something that hasn't registered quite as highly on their radar which isn't a 2 stroke 900cc econobox from the former USSR biggrin

Why not get yourself something like this?

ETA: Just seen the price of the Anglia, and for that kind of money you could get a Spitfire in a much better condition.

Yep, modifications get weighted horribly. Go for a saloon with a bit of poke as standard (Dolly Sprint is a good shout, or even a Dolly 1850, also Triumph 2000/2500, Rover SD1, smaller engined Jag XJs, Mercedes W123 etc.) and you'll get a surprisingly cheap quote.

I wouldn't mind one of those but seeing as I'm going to be doing music at university next year it's not that practical, I won't be able to fit my guitar, amp and maybe a friend into it.

So get a boot rack and sling the amp and guitar on that.

How big's your amp? Me, a friend, a Fender hotrod Deluxe and my SG in a hard case fit in an MG Midget...

I say old Mini. Good fun, dont have to be going fast to have fun, cheap to run, parts are plentifull and insurance is cheap. The only bad point about them is the intial cost of buying a good one.

Keep in mind that cars like that are very easily stolen, and with the prices they fetch these days I would be very wary of leaving it on the street overnight, More so if you will be going to university in it. Also I know it's the market that creates the price but 5750 pounds, christ scrapyards used to be full to bursting with mk2 escorts years ago. I only paid 50 quid for a mk1 in 1997 wish I still had it.

Well it will be kept in a locked garage while I'm away at university with my mum checking on the car, also I have the same amp, fender hot rod deluxe with a Gibson les Paul, among a few other guitars. smile
