Just needed to rant a little
Discussion
I was talking to a mate of mine the other night who's got a Corsa SRi. He was talking about getting a turbo kit for it which costs about £2,000 and I suggested that he'd be better off saving towards a fast car if that's what he wanted.
Then the bombshell, he can't afford to insure a fast car so this was better because he isn't going to tell his Insurance Company. Then it transpires that his 1.8SRi is only insured as a 1.4 anyway!!
I tried to explain that no insurance etc is not worth the risk but he says that it's all ok, they just won't pay for the turbo if the car is written off. There should be some anonymous tip line for both this type of thing, and "fronting" set up by the Motor Insurance Bureau. My Insurance is expensive because I'm up front and declare the fact that my car is imported and that I use it for busines. Why should
s like this get away with such behaviour and (I think) genuinely don't believe that they're not doing anything wrong.

Its hardly the crime of the century!
True, but if he has £2k for a turbo he has enough to insure it correctly.Just to note, I pay £2800 to insure my Tvr Chim, so im affected,
Dont forget what goes around comes around, chances are he doesn't know what hes doing and will bolt the turbo kit on, run to much boost, run it lean and it will blow any ways

Ssssshh. Don't tell your mate - he is wasting money. Having a car falsely insured means he realistically has no insurance, so might as well not have any anyway. Or is he worried about ANPR cameras ?What he needs is a nice little gentle bump in the snow & ice. Car damaged and no payout, 3+ points and all in time for

Crimestoppers-going a bit too far.
What I'd like to be able to do is make sure that his insurance is "reviewed" and cancelled/recalculated accordingly. His ignorance shouldn't cost him £250 fine and 6 points, no way he'd get insurance then and would probably drive around either fronted or uninsured completely (if the rest of the yoof of today are to be used as a yardstick).

Find out who he's insured with and then ring their Customer Relations Department with details of his name, address & reg number. They wil happily contact him (to cancel the insurance, which will really f
k him up), or send someone round to investigate at the very least.
Bit confused how he's managed to hide the engine size though, as most insurers link the reg no. to the central DVLA database.
Ask him to have a read of this:
http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/8164221.Car_owner_...
The outcome:
http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/local_news/8628264...
The other outcomes are:
A nice IN10, 6 - 8 points and a fine of c£200, but I think it can go up to £1000 (?)
If other innocent parties are involved then all of their costs can be recovered from your "mate", in the above cases, the mother is expectd to lose her house and all other assets when the costs are finally established.

Want my name and address so you can call the police?
