I fancy getting out of Bournemouth for New Year but dont want to drive the usual 1000 mile round trip to Glasgow (need a year off that one). It'll be me, the missus and the dogs and what we are after is this:

Within 100 miles of Bournemouth.
Character pub, not a chain or 'big hotel'.
Proper bar with local ales and proper bar snacks.
Friendly atmosphere (no 'locals only' attitude).
Decent restaraunt food or decent pub grub.
Dog friendly B&B or Inn with rooms suitable for dog staying over.
Late license.
Local walks for the dogs.
Quiet village location.
On site parking or safe alternative.

I know ive been very specific but why go away from home if your not gonna have a good time!! This sort of thing is easy to find up north or over the borders in Scotland and Wales but i dont want the long drive this year. Im a traditional kinda guy so im not after the club exoerience and the dogs love going to the pub so here's hoping we can do it closer to home.

Any ideas please post up.

Friend is having a NYE/Birthday bash in deepest rural Somerset so I thought that it would be no problem getting an Inn for the night within 5 miles but no such luck, all fully booked. Looks like it will have to be a tent.

Good luck.

Try the King John in Tollard Royal....good pub with good food + the car park's usually full of expensive metal...they're also dog friendly as it's popular with the locals (including Guy Richie & co)
Been there a few times as it's just up the road from my house.....

Don't expect a cheap night though......

If not, the Museum Inn, Farnham is also a cracking pub...

There you go....2 pubs & not far away + you get to drive the "Cranborne Chase" roads (including Zig-Zag) on the 1st when the roads will be quiet....perfect...!!

There's a place on Exmoor with 150 single malts in the bar.

I'll have a google, see if I can find it.

Got it!

Hi Eddie

We have been here a few times as our friends live down the road and they cant always accomodate all of us.

Nice food, good location, walks up and down the canals etc

I am pretty sure they are dog friendly?

Nice drive down there too.

As per my post above, I'm booked up now at a pub in Yeovil. Thanks for the help though, I can always count on the help of PH members.

Saw your post on the thread list yesterday but didn't think you'd want the things you've listed (didn't bother to read the post) but it's bang on the Brace Of Pheasants at Plush
