Bit fell off!

Hit a bit of a bump today and looked in my rear view mirror to see something lying in the road. 'Funny', I thought, 'I'm sure that wasn't there when I approached that spot...'

It looks like a heatshield. How important is it, and can I re-use this one? There are four jagged holes which is where I guess the fixings are/were:

Looks like an exhaust heatshield, and the holes at the corners are where the bolts go. Looks like it has corroded, the holes have widened, and the jolt finally cut it adrift.

Yes, it can be reused. You'll just need bigger washers, to cover the bigger holes.

Thanks for that - I'll have to take a trip to my local garage next week. Following a little excursion with a low wall in the summer one of my exhausts is rather shorter than the other one so they can hammer that out too
