I went to Elite Racing Transmissions here in UK last year to check the design of their new FNR they are going to build for me.
I wanted a package that resolves the issues with existing FNRs as I see them, ie to get rid of the chains and be very strong, Elite think they have a market for it so we have come up with a design.
It consists of two units available separately:
FNR Gearbox that is available as either forward or reverse rotation complete with LSD and output flanges for 100 or 108mm CV’s.
Drive to the FNR is via either a chain or separate gear driven transfer case. The gearing in the transfer case can also be altered to change the ratio.
The unit I will get is pre-production and will have billet cases. It has been designed with offroad cars in mind so it’s a heavy unit at the minute. The weight will come down when they switch to cast gear cases.
General Specs I gave to them:
It must be strong for 28”+ dia tires so the minimum shaft dia’s is 30mm and it uses 20mm wide spur gears.
Overall gear ratio is 5.5:1 (it’s also adjustable in the transfer case)
It’s designed around an English Diff with plated LSD that uses 45Deg ramp angles developed for RWD rally cars. This is available with different ramp angle combinations or as an open diff or and aluminium or steel spool.
Elite estimate its good for about 450lbs/ft torque, and being Elite if its not strong enough they can vary the gear sizes and diff to suit.
It is unproven and expensive to me at the moment, but I couldn’t buy what I was after. I am hoping that it will become a standard product for them so other people can benefit if they choose and I can get off the shelf spares etc or even another one in the future.

I asked the same question a couple of years ago.
I got a couple of e-mails off some very unhappy bunnies! The Guy there can also be rude I'm told. Of course this is second hand information, and there are two sides to every story.
Have a look at Drenth. A bit more money, but you get what you pay for.
From experience the Guys at Drenth are also very helpfull.
